A coworker who was really busy asked me to stop by her friend's house to do a quick and simple pick-up. "She's out of town, so the stuff is in a bag hanging on the front door." Address in hand, I drove off to go fetch this bag of stuff.
I found the house with no problem and, sure enough, it looked pretty abandoned. But there was no bag hanging on the front door. I went around to the side and there was no bag there either. I called my coworker, but there was no answer. I called Gerry to do a quick lookup for me, and the results were sketchy. Determined to give it my best effort, however, I decided to be bold and walk around to the backyard and check the screen porch before calling it quits.
But there on the screen porch was ... a real live person! Agh! I ran back around to the front of the house, caught my breath, and then went to ring the doorbell. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I don't normally snoop on people's porches, I promise!" I bubbled all over the young lady who opened the door. "I didn't think anyone was home." (Oh great, like that was any better!) She was understanding, however, and it turned out that she was a roommate who knew about the bag. She'd taken it off the front door so that the weather wouldn't get to it.
How nice ... and how embarrassing!
Here's today's Scripture. I picked it because it astonishes me each time that God had the foresight to define what he means by "day" by specifying that it's an evening and a morning. No matter what you believe about intelligent design, creation, or evolution, it can't be denied that this is what the Bible matter-of-factly says:
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. (Genesis 1:3-5)
