Friends, traffic, shopping, weddings...

Black Friday! These are some random thoughts and experiences from the day.

This morning I met up with jcjava and teklawyer for a free breakfast and coffee at IKEA. Yes, we happened to look around for a bit after eating, but mainly we were there for the free breakfast.

It was my first time to visit IKEA, and I think I'd like to go back! It's not because I want to buy up the store, but because it encouraged me and gave me ideas for designing my home to be efficient. (We Americans are so awfully spread out in our houses.)

Traffic wasn't that bad in the morning, so it really surprised me to come back the same area with Gerry in the afternoon and find the roads literally stopped! Before leaving the apartment, I'd prayed to God that I'd be calm in traffic, but I really wasn't expecting to see any! Oh well. He answered my prayer. I sat and stared at the road while Gerry took a nap for the 30 minutes it took us to go 1/4 mile from the freeway to our store.

We got new running shoes for me at a grrrrreat price. They're as ugly as a donkey's butt ... but they are comfy, reflective, and cheap!

In the evening, the two of us put together a timeline for planning our wedding. Also, we separated out the tasks that our California wedding planners should be doing for us, and the things we want to do for ourselves. Woof, that was a difficult task! I am so glad that we did it, however. I feel so ... accomplished ... after it was done. I sure hope it works out okay!

We have some unusual priorities in planning this wedding. For one, our out-of-town guests. We don't want them to feel their long flight to California was a waste of time, or that they have nothing to do but wait around, so we're going to plan some things just for them! Another thing is that we love to give first-timers a chance. Mentoring, training, discipling, whatever you want to call it. So we have first-time wedding planners, first-time photographers, a first-time pastor, etc.

I want to have this tiara...
