money matters

My roommate Debbie has been having an awful time of it at her job for the past year or so. And instead of there being an eventual relief to the misery, it's grown progressively worse over the months. I was thrilled when she announced that she was going to start job-hunting a while ago. It was nerve-wracking for her and really hard to juggle her actual work with her search for work, but it eventually paid off and she now has a position in the executive offices of the Gaylord Palms! I am proud of her.

However, her previous position as assistant manager of the apartment complex had been giving us a huge discount on rent, and now that's gone. Also, an amendment to her employment contract stated that, within seven days of leaving the company, both of us would have to move out. Although I didn't actively worry about this while she was job-hunting, I thought about it from time to time and wondered what we'd do when the time came.

Debs met with the general manager of the apartment company yesterday to find out if there was any way that we could stay and not have to move out by Monday. Not only did she get permission to stay, she also got a decent discount on our apartment!

Still, our rate is going to jump at the end of the month. My share will go from $390 to $620 a month. Ouch! I am going to have to rebudget, although at this point I'm not sure that the budget can squeeze enough for that. Most of the money is going to come from my saving-for-a-car fund, unfortunately. What to do, what to do.

Also, I jumped the gun with my earlier announcement of Gerry's job. Unfortunately, he didn't get it. Although there are positions available in Central Florida, there's competition and it can take a good long while for employers to actually take the leap and officially hire a person. We appreciate prayers for his continued search for employment.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they...? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:25-26, 31-34)
