So it's dead quiet in res, and pretty much all over campus. I'm actually surprised at how odd this would seem to me. Originally, I expected that it wouldn't really affect me and my doings, but the lack of life is actually quite profound. However, as the last and only person in my tower, I'll be able to get some sleep. (Last night, I experimented with going to sleep at 9 PM. But I don't think my system can adjust that quickly. I woke up at 2 AM, and then had a really weird dream about the most messed-up scavenger hunt. I'll spare the details, but it'll suffice to say that it involved obscure objects around the world).
Anyway, I decided to rent some movies since I now can. Unfortunately, they didn't have Evita. I mean, why would you NOT have Evita in stock? I didn't bother getting anything else and decided to counter my mild depression by looking at fuzzy things in the pet store next door. I wanted to get a dwarf hamster, but 1) it's not allowed in rez (although that hasn't stopped some people), and 2) I wouldn't have any place to keep it during the summer. As a substitute, I spent 2 hours in there oggling the displays and the little puppy that they had.
(That was yesterday). So today, I decided that I did want to rent some movies, even if I would have to do without Evita. I perused the displays and selected movies at random. Well, at least what I would consider random (i.e. not having a complete comprehensive list at hand). I picked up (in this order) "Merchant of Venice" (with Al Pacino, "Bowling for Columbine," and "Girl with a Pearl Earring." Interestingly enough, I watched them in the opposite order: "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and "Bowling for Columbine" tonight, and I'll get to "Merchant of Venice" tomorrow.
Girl with a Pearl Earring was visually sumptuous. Most, if not all scenes, were set up as if they were paintings. Beautiful compositions, lighting, sets, and costumes. It was simply exquisite, and paid respect to the rather mysterious origins of the actual painting.
I think everyone's seen Bowling for Columbine, and after I had watched it, I realized that I had seen it previously. However, it's a good documentary to watch once in a while. I have yet to get to the special features, but will probably get to that tomorrow (along with Merchant of Venice, which I'm looking forwawrd to).
