Mission: Accomplished

Special National Security Agent Choi Siwon discreetly scanned the luxurious ballroom that was the location of his team’s undercover mission. Under the guise of a party guest, he smoothly moved around the perimeter, keeping an eye out for the target they were supposed to locate and then interrogate about his suspected connections to a terror cell. Half of the team was spread around the room, mingling as inconspicuously as possible-more or less successfully. Not for the first time Siwon wished that they had at least one female member to draw the attention of the men to herself instead of leaving them to sulkily glare at the agents as too many of the present women giggled over their pretty faces, the result of a concerted government effort to polish up the Security Agencies image in the public eye.

Siwon’s searching gaze stopped on Kyuhyun, one of his team members, who was fiddling with his cell phone in boredom, and he took the time to admire the sleek black suit on the other man. While the outfit wasn’t nearly as distracting as that time they were investigating in that underground club, when Kyuhyun had walked around with eyeliner, mussed hair, and strategically torn pants, Siwon had to turn away from the heavy-lidded look Kyuhyun was wearing. After all, distraction on a mission could be potentially disastrous.

He nodded at an acquaintance from earlier that night, then his invisible earpiece crackled. “Kyuhyun, would you mind not playing games on your phone in the middle of our mission?” Donghae’s amused voice came through the line.

“Fine,” the other agent answered, a little sulky. Siwon glanced over to see him putting away his phone with a dark expression.

“Thank you. Another minute and I would’ve come over to play against you. Watching paint dry is more thrilling than this.”

“This would be so much better if it were anything like a spy movie,” Kyuhyun said, sounding annoyed at the lack of fistfights and flying bullets.

Siwon thought it might be a bad moment to mention that at least he looked like a movie star.

“Better than being stuck out here,” Henry complained from his position in their temporary headquarters in a hotel down the street. “I’ve beaten my own tetris high score already twice tonight.”

“At least you have tetris,” Ryeowook pouted, stuck in front of the building to inform them of the arrival of their target.

“At least there weren’t any explosions yet,” Siwon said optimistically without moving his lips, interrupting the whining. From the corner of his eye, he saw Donghae smoothly shaking someone’s hand. If he had any say in the matter, there wouldn’t be any action to endanger anyone.

“But things wouldn’t be so fucking boring with a little explosion. Where is that guy? Will he even show up?” Kyuhyun murmured darkly.

“Zhoumi saw him leave his hotel fifteen minutes ago,” Henry replied. “He should be there any moment now.”

Catching Kyuhyun’s sigh, Siwon glanced at him from across the room. The other agent was glowering speculatively at a beefy man conversing with two women not far from his position. Siwon frowned and raised his untouched champagne glass to hide the movement of his lips. Threats were so much more effective if enunciated clearly. “Kyuhyun, if you start trouble, I’ll personally have your ass for ruining the mission.” Donghae snickered a little too suggestively, but Siwon ignored him. “Think about the safety of Korea a little, okay?”

Kyuhyun muttered something that sounded suspiciously like “the safety of Korea, my ass,” but he straightened from his slouch and made an effort to scan the room subtly while he inserted himself into a conversation.

“Target arrived at the building,” Ryeowook informed them from his post outside. “Finally. Fashionably late went out of fashion three years ago.”

A minute later, Donghae said, “He’s here.”

Siwon waited for a few moments, then he carefully glanced at the man who had just entered. Tall and lean in a light gray suit, slim face, big eyes, pale lips, glasses-yes, that was their target, known as K.

“Too bad we didn’t get any of Taeyeon’s girls to come with us and seduce the information out of him,” Donghae said wistfully. “This’ll take forever.”

“I’ll take over,” Kyuhyun said and moved to begin the subtle dance around the target before anyone had time to raise opposition. Forty-five minutes later, Kyuhyun was conversing with K, utilizing an effective mixture of charm and reserve. From the way K was looking at him, it was working a little too well, Siwon thought darkly as he watched them discreetly. Donghae, who had strolled over a few minutes ago despite Siwon’s warnings to stay separated, was obviously thinking along the same lines. “Maybe we wouldn’t have needed a woman after all. Do you think that guy is after Kyuhyun’s ass?” he asked casually, taking a sip from his glass.

“I hope not,” Siwon answered absently, distracted by K’s hand on Kyuhyun’s arm.

“Then again, who’s not, eh, Siwon-ah?” Donghae asked, giving him an evil grin.

And here he had been thinking he had been keeping it a secret. Siwon wilted, distinctly agonized at the idea that Donghae knew, before he remembered the situation at hand and drew himself up again, giving the other agent a pointed look. “Now isn’t exactly a good time for that, Donghae. We’re still on a mission.”

He shrugged. “Kyuhyun has it under control, right? So where’s the fire?”

Not gracing him with an answer, Siwon looked on with a frown as Kyuhyun was smoothly guiding K to a more secluded area of the room, obviously preparing to slip away and interrogate soon. They were standing a little too close to each other, and horrified, Siwon saw K reaching out, possibly for Kyuhyun’s hip, when on oblivious women joined them cheerfully, latched herself onto Kyuhyun’s arm, and pulled him over to her friends. How unfortunate.

“Oh shit,” Donghae cursed. “Never mind what I just said.”

“I’m taking over,” Siwon announced maybe a little too happily, replacing his frown with a polite smile as he went over to introduce himself to K. It was a risky move, but he didn’t care as long as it got their mission done soon and the guy away from Kyuhyun. K was suspicious, but Siwon made sure to appear a little drunk and continue to feed himself and, as far as possible, K more champagne. He spun a tale of mutual acquaintances, tried to make himself a little more gullible-seeming than usual, and made sure K had a nice, distracting view of Kyuhyun as they talked.

Within fifteen minutes, he convinced the guy to get fresh air in the hotel garden with him. Either K was the most idiotic terrorist in existence or Siwon’s acting was just that good. Honest with himself, Siwon admitted that the guy was just that much of an idiot to fall for it, not that he was complaining.

Keeping the conversation up, Siwon set them on a path that soon rounded around a high hedge, then he made his move. The guy never knew what hit him. One moment, he was having a friendly party conversation. The next moment, Siwon had given him two solid punches and the other man crumpled to the floor soundlessly, not stirring.

Siwon contentedly straightened his bowtie.

Kyuhyun came skidding around the corner, throwing a glance over his shoulder to make sure he wasn’t being followed. Then he saw Siwon’s handiwork and stopped short. “What the fuck? You were supposed to interrogate him, not main him.”

Siwon lifted his eyebrows innocently. “We were only talking.”

“Then why is he unconscious?” Kyuhyun scowled, bending down to check K’s pulse. Siwon admired the view of Kyuhyun’s slacks tightening over the form of his butt, then the other agent straightened and gave him an annoyed look. “Can you at least think of a better excuse than trying to tell me he simply keeled over?”

Smiling apologetically, Siwon offered, “Maybe I hit him a little too hard. I didn’t think he would go down that easily.” Kyuhyun didn’t need to know that he had maybe been a little jealous and out for revenge.

“Right.” Kyuhyun snorted. “Who do you think you’re fooling, Siwon?”

Or maybe he knew already. Acutely embarrassed, Siwon coughed, wondering how he was supposed to get himself out of the situation tactfully, without riling Kyuhyun any more.

To his surprise, Kyuhyun snorted again, definitely amused this time, and grabbed his collar to draw him in for a quick, firm kiss. “You’re so awkward when you’re embarrassed, you know that?”

Siwon stared at him, wide-eyed, and tried to wrap his mind around the situation. So Kyuhyun was clearly not angry and clearly knew about the crush he had tried to be subtle about. Maybe he really hadn’t been as successful with that as he had thought. And maybe it wasn’t all that bad if it got Kyuhyun to kiss him.

Kyuhyun contemplatively stared down at the unconscious man at their feet, lightly pushing at his leg with the tip of his shoe. “So, what about him now?”

Focusing on the matter at hand, Siwon went through scenarios in his head, but before he could say anything, their radio crackled and Henry’s frantic voice came from the other end. “Shit, shit, shit. Headquarters just contacted me, guys. We’ve got the wrong man.”

“What?!” exclaimed Siwon and Kyuhyun, blinking owlishly. They exchanged a glance and looked down at not-K, still unconscious, a bruise slowly blooming on his temple.

“What the fuck does that mean, Henry?” Donghae hissed angrily.

“I repeat,” Henry said, sounding annoyed himself, “we’ve got the wrong man. They made a mistake. The real target is still inside.” He rattled off a description. “Donghae, maybe you could…?”

“Wonderful,” Donghae replied, miffed. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll take over.”

“He might need back-up,” Siwon said to Kyuhyun, who was disdainfully glaring at the poor unconscious man at their feet, no doubt annoyed at having submitted himself to his advances.

“You’re right, let’s go,” Kyuhyun said, and they turned back towards the building. They were barely inside when Donghae’s curse reached them over radio. “He’s running. Service exit.”

Spotting the fleeing man when he sprinted past them halfway across the room, Siwon immediately set out after him, while Kyuhyun broke away to circle the outside of the building. They raced through hallways and rooms, knocking aside people and objects, and it seemed to take forever, then they burst through a door out into the parking lot. Kyuhyun was suddenly there, forcing the target to swerve, and that was all Siwon needed to take him down with a high kick. The man fought back, but then Donghae slid to a halt next to them, and between the three of them, they could hold him down and bind him without having to break anything first.

Stepping back to leave the struggling bundle to a peeved Donghae, Kyuhyun pushed the hair out of his eyes. “God, what a shitty mission,” he huffed, panting slightly from all the running, and fumbled with his radio. “Henry, if they call you in a minute to tell you that they were wrong and we were supposed to get the other guy, then tell them to go to hell.”

Grabbing Siwon’s hand, Kyuhyun pulled him along after Donghae and the bound man, kicking at the target’s leg once or twice for good measure to vent a little of his frustration as they made their way around to the front of the building where Ryeowook was waiting. Siwon was happy with the eventually successful mission and Kyuhyun didn’t even protest when he swung their hands enthusiastically as they neared the main entrance. He was just about to steal a kiss when Ryeowook gave a shout, whirled around to the door, and dropped on one knee, his gun already pointing, and then he shot.

He was only slightly too late, the activated detonator rolled out of the man’s slack hand as he went down. Cursing, Donghae caught their target in a low rugby tackle and squashed him to the floor with his body weight, a knee not-so-accidentally landing on the other man’s abdomen. Ryeowook dove to safety behind a ridiculously expensive foreign car, and Siwon had only time for a short prayer before he pushed Kyuhyun to the floor and covered him with his own body.

The front door was blown to smithereens with the force of the explosion, and Siwon wondered for a moment how stupid this bunch of terrorists was if they seriously expected them to march their target to interrogation out the main entrance. Then a wave of heat and pressure rolled over them, pressing him into Kyuhyun, leaving his ears ringing.

They could hear frantic screams and shouts from inside, but Siwon ignored them in favor of quickly lifting his head to look at Kyuhyun. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

Kyuhyun stared back with a scowl. “You’re only crushing my ribcage, I’m fine,” he said sarcastically, but made no move to push Siwon off. “Whatever gave you the idiotic idea of having to shield me from an explosion? Were you trying to kill yourself?”

Relieved, Siwon almost sagged, smiling at the other man even as he had the urge to laugh at Kyuhyun’s indignant tone. “I’m just glad you’re fine. I’m glad.”

“It’s just a little explosion, Siwon,” Kyuhyun said, but his voice was a little gentler and he was smiling back.

He could hear Donghae cursing at their target, no doubt already roughly yanking the man up to tell him what exactly he would do to him if any of them even got so much as a scratch from this pathetic attempt at killing them, and then there was Ryeowook’s voice, trying to calm him down. The floor was rough and could and they should really get back to their team, but Siwon didn’t feel like getting up. He felt much more like finding an outlet for the adrenaline still coursing through his bloodstream from the shock. So he bent down and kissed Kyuhyun firmly and maybe a little too enthusiastically in his relief and energetic state. But Kyuhyun didn’t seem to mind, kissing back just as aggressively as he looped his arms around Siwon.

“Oi!” Donghae yelled, sounding annoyed, but Siwon ignored him in favor of swallowing one of Kyuhyun’s throaty moans. “Oi! We have to get going, pick another time to swallow each other’s tongues, would you?”

Regretfully, Siwon pulled away and got up, offering Kyuhyun a hand to help him stand that he ignored, only to grab it and pull Siwon along after he had dusted himself off. He shot a smug grin at the peeved Donghae when they reached the others, and Siwon could only shrug apologetically at the other agents as he was dragged down the street. Misson: accomplished.
