No mutant powers, no exposure to crazy chemicals, no being an alien, nothing. He's just a guy who wants to help out. (okay, so revenge is in there a bit too....just makes him a little more human and realistic). He's come up with some really great gadgets, vehicular feats of engineering, just a lot of hard work...give some nerd across the river at MIT long enough, and (s)he could realistically become a "batman"-esque everyday superhero (MIT students...perhaps you should try this out for a thesis/project of some sort...thanks). In short, he's just your average guy using his brain and his talents to make the world a better place to live in, and that's terrific.
