Last night my hubby, my cousin and I went to our local Celtic Hall Cultural Center for a celebration of Burns' Night. There were several pipe bands present, one of whom is a local group who are good enough to go to Scotland and try to win in the third division- quite an accomplishment. The Canadian Celtic Band. The Brigadoon's were the lead entertainment. We had readings of Robbie Burns', including the Address to the Haggis in Gaelic, (and yes you could have some if you wished. My husband did, my cousin and I did not. Like DMcC, I think the stuff is awful. Or maybe offal. The rest of the dinner included salad, but a really nice one, Shepherd's Pie (although I think it really was Cottage Pie with beef not lamb), roasted red potatoes, chicken in a lovely glaze, potato chip encrusted haddock and lovely crusty dinner rolls. Dessert was warm bread pudding with whipped cream. We were serenaded through dinner with bagpipe music, and then there were Highland Dancers from a local school. All in all it was lovely. I'd been before many years ago. I might make this an annual event now. I will have to get a tartan skirt and sash I guess!
