HURRAH! 'TIS "Lessons and Carols" time here at the Hart abode (affectionately referred to as "the Marshalsea"). And wouldn't you know it, but it's introduced by a Scotsman and is in a bizarre twist of fate opened with "Once in Royal David's City" (which is coincidentally how it has always began - how curious; it's almost as though it's all been planned out that way). But what's this? A Spanish carol! Good grief. Spaniards? In Cambridge? There is something amiss. Surely God's breeth didst at Gravelines confound them in their tracks? Apparently some of their lyricists landed at Thanet after all, forsooth. Still, it is Christmas, to quote that paragon of traditional British virtue (Abner Brown). This growing festive-feeling is greatly enhanced by the somewhat painful sight of our cocker spaniel fumbling around with a large red bow around his neck (shades of Anne Boleyn).
"I do hope you children have been very good, otherwise the Devil will do unpleasant things to you." - auldtyme anonymous Christmassy quotation.
