Man, I’m liking this show better and better. Liked this one more than last week’s Thanksgiving episode, which as I’ve said, didn’t completely work for me.
Last year the few times I re-watched OC episodes I skipped all the non-Ryan related parts since every other storyline was boring to me. I could get through the whole season in about an hour! Last night’s episode engaged me from beginning to end. I watched it again this morning and wanted to see every part. Sandy and Kirsten back to first season matrimonial bliss. Sandy and his play date. Julie and Caitlyn working out their mother/daughter issues-completely intriguing. I’m enjoying Caitlyn so much.
Summer’s new college persona and even her interactions with Seth, which usually leave me cold were perfect. I know a lot of people don’t like Chris Pratt, but I think his granola-crunching character is hilarious.
I like Summer’s evolution into a dedicated person. Hey, you knew from her caring about the skinny squirrel clear back in junior high days that she had it in her to be a champion of nature. Her therapy sessions at the beginning were absolutely wonderful too.
The Ryan and Taylor parts absolutely worked for me. Taylor is the female Seth Cohen, a sad, lonely, vulnerable outsider, who chatters too much. Assuming Ryan and Taylor get together, he’ll actually be having sex with his best friend so all the Ryan/Seth shippers can rejoice. Clearly it would be another unhealthy relationship. Taylor gloms on to whoever shows her the least scrap of attention. Ryan needs to be needed by someone vulnerable and weak. Not healthy. Yet somehow this pair works for me in a way that vulnerable Marissa never did. And speaking of Marissa, do you know who I haven’t missed once this year? Not even a little? Not even for a moment, like a pang of ‘ooh she’s not around anymore, how sad’? I do not miss the character at all.
Loved the kissing and the sweet, sweet nose tap at the end. How could poor Taylor not be swept away, especially since she clearly falls easy. Looking forward to more of this interaction. If Ry can’t be with Summer, Taylor is a good, lively choice for him. I suppose she’ll only serve as a transition romance though for something else later in the season. And who here believes with me that sometime before the end of this show (assuming this IS the last season) that Ryan’s daddy must finally show up and cause trouble?
ETA: I'm even liking the music better this year than the past couple of years. Don't know if it's because I like the stories better or if it really is a better music collection. Some very good choices!
ETA2: Check out my new pic. It's the cover for Elzed and my book "Finding Home". Yay!
