Quiz champions of Karori

Our team, which has a rotating membership of about 4 of my workmates and their partners and a support crew of one, won first prize on Tuesday, after placings in the last few weeks sufficient to put a dent in our drinks bill. We've gone through several names, but I'm hoping we stick with quite a good one our resident teacher suggested, the Hell's Satans. Although we'd struggle to do better than one of the others a few weeks ago called William Shatner's Pants.

Highlights over the last few weeks of quizzing have included stepping out to view the lunar eclipse, remembering the printer's mnemonic for the most commonly used letters ETAOIN SHRDLU (learned from Carl Sagan's Contact, circa 1986), working out that apius mellifera meant honey bee, and somehow working out that Outpost Gallifrey was a Doctor Who fansite, despite never having been a real big fan. I have teammates, so questions over the soundtrack of Pretty Woman, screwball comedies of the 1950s and cricket rules can be handled. We're pretty weak on the sports round - it's a special sort of person who likes sports and answering questions about sports.

I had to race home in time for Outrageous Fortune so I didn't get to hear the answers to the last two rounds this week, but we got ten out of ten for both, and they were our joker bonus rounds so double points. At this rate, I may never have to pay for dinner on Tuesday nights again.
