Beautiful day. HOT, HOT, HOT! But wonderful. We gave out lots of hugs, as usual. PFLAG's booth was in the shade until late afternoon. Tall buildings, FTW!
I had a new friend with me. She had been to Pride in Atlanta several times. Although ours is much smaller, she liked the intimacy and friendliness of it.
I also enjoyed the occasional pretty twink in skimpy clothes. ;) I know he's not interested, but I liked the view.
At the beginning of the day, there was an anti-gay protestor near our booth spouting bible verses with an amplifier. As I went by, I sang "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught (to hate and fear)." It made people smile.
There was another on a corner during the parade, but his words were drowned out by counter-protestors blowing loud whistles and carrying signs that read, "Jesus does not hate," etc. It was brilliant. This is our day, dude. You don't get to come and rain on our fabulous parade.
The haters moved their protest about a block away from our street fair, I assume at the urging of police.
Perhaps I should memorize this pastor's sermon, so I can "counter-preach" next year. ;)
