The "Persecutor As Victim" Card Played Once Again
The "kinder and gentler" Focus On the Family facade hides the same old anti-gay, "we can fix you" messages they have always pushed.
Well Jeremy Hooper of Good As You is a kinder, gentler activist. Except it is no facade. This is how he rolls. He is polite, using no hateful, inflamatory speech, no name-calling (I can't always say likewise).
Because of this, people from FOTF and other anti-gay groups, including - yes - Westboro Baptist, will talk to him. Someone's gotta do this, and I applaud him for it.
In a recent controversy, TOMS shoe company (which donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair sold) entered in a partnership with FOTF. Apparently, the facade worked. But when activists pointed out to TOMS what FOTF's beliefs and policies are, they backed out of the partnership.
A FOTF staffer with whom Jeremy Hooper has been corresponding, asked him, "do you think I hate you?"
Jeremy Hooper put his response on his blog for all to read.
"I even think that more people would be in places of worship than they are today, as I believe Focus on the Family and the larger religious right has completely sullied religious faith for countless many."
