Just some thoughts brewing in my mind, based on the postings of several people over the past few weeks.
With
alabastard's permission, I'm quoting his $0.02 because it's basically my opinion, too:
"Our home is here on LJ, and here We will stay, refusing to flail and bail every time an issue comes up, We'd rather stand up and help set things right. We certainly haven't the time for another social network, not when it's all We can do to keep up here and on facebook. After all, We should all know better than to use these sites as a personal diary or confessional ;-)"
People are free to use LJ, FB, and all the other social networking sites available in different ways. But no one should have any delusions that what happens here will stay here. I'm not saying I'm going to betray anyone's trust, but someone else might, whether intentionally or otherwise.
I am very careful with my personal information. If you know intimate details about my life, I can guarantee that you did not read them here. If someone wants to stalk me, they could find out who I am, where I live, etc., but I'm not going to make it easy for them. If you Google my real name, if you know it, guess what? You'll find information about someone else with my name. It's not me.
People need to use some common sense, both when writing in their own journals and when reading others.'
