This is the most excellent analogy for friendships I have ever seen ever in my life. I may want to quote it!
I don't think I am a leaf, but I may be an extremely stubborn branch. I wont go so far as to say I am a root only because that would be presumptuous of me.
Tyler Perry is a freaking Genius. (his quote) and it always makes me a little sad that his work gets shuffled off as, "oh, that's for black folk" and then butchered similarly in movie form. That said, it's an awesome quote that I hope I did some sort of justice to.
I like "extremely stubborn branch". I think the problem with people like you and I (because your post got me thinking about this too) is that we assume we've got roots when we've got branches, and branches when we've got leaves. I'd hate to say it's bad to expect so much of your friends, but the heart on the sleeve thing wears you out!
That's tough. A lot of my local friends migrated, and the established groups closed weirdly after I had the spawn. Branching out and breaking in is good for us!

I like "extremely stubborn branch". I think the problem with people like you and I (because your post got me thinking about this too) is that we assume we've got roots when we've got branches, and branches when we've got leaves.
