So I was told that I needed to give an update, and I guess that's realistically true.
Here's what's been going on in my life. As many of you know, I just got my M.A. and got married, so I'm taking a hiatus from the "working" world, and instead am diving head first into being a not-so-typical housewife. True, I am keeping house (the cleaning and laundry is never ending) and yes, I do cook dinner/dessert most nights, but hey, I really enjoy doing that. I also am catching up on reading for pleasure--something I haven't been able to do really ever since undergrad.
I'm not sure if this would count in the "typical" housewifery, but I am getting a lot of flowers planted and making sure the ones we do have planted grow nicely. I never thought I would do gardening of ANY kind, but it does help the look of the house TREMENDOUSLY!!
If you aren't convinced that gardening is "typical" (at least for me), then demolishing the basement even more I guess would be. Yes, we are still working on the bathroom (i.e. the never ending project), but before we could really make anymore progress on it, we actually had to do something else first. Yes, I am talking about constructing....you ready for this???.....a new LAUNDRY ROOM!!! This had to happen because studding up the frame applied minute pressure to the bathroom's floor. Seeing how the laundry room is directly below the bathroom in the basement, we couldn't risk setting floor tiles first and then have either the grout or tiles crack when constructing the new room. Sooooooo, now that we have the frame up, and drywall all up in the basement, we can continue our work on the bathroom. All the major "hurdles" are over for it (new electrical and all NEW plumbing), so now we can more thoroughly seal the seams of the drywall and begin sanding, then install the toilet and sink (the jacuzzi tub's already in), then paint, then tile, and VOILA! It's finished. Adam said it would only take about 4-5 more good working days to get it all "finished" to be in working order, but I'm still betting it won't really be finished until Christmas...
Another "extreme home makeover" update as I said earlier is the basement. Since we built the new laundry room, we had to seal the drywall seams. As it turns out, the basement is WAAAAAY too humid (anyone who's been down there knows that!), so the joint compound wasn't drying really AT ALL. So we had to buy a dehumidifyer to help get rid of the humidity. We also thought that to help the air circulate, we might as well knock down some more walls and take out doors. Mental picture--for those who have been in our basement, you know how it was virtually divided in half, with drywall walls and LOVELY barnwood doors and trim. Well, Adam and I were planning on knocking those out anyway, but we weren't planning on doing it that soon. We thought, however, that since we had been investing money for both the bathroom and laundry room for quite some time, it would be nice to undertake a project that required no money at all--DEMOLISHING icky, smoke-stained, and smoke-reeking drywall and barnwood (I also peeled up the old linoleum tiles--literally, they just peeled right up!). So, really, we are killing three birds with one stone: 1.) getting rid of the stuff with aid in circulation; 2.) we wanted to do it anyway; 3.) not having it will make our basement smell better! In a nutshell, even though we constructed an enclosed space in the basement, it still looks MUCH bigger and more open than it did before since a lot of the stuff is out.
In other news, the puppies are doing well, Adam still works too much (I get to see him on average about 3-4 hours per day before he conks out for the night), and I'm thoroughly enjoying taking a break from school/work. Hopefully, though, Adam will no longer have to be a supervisor anymore come beginning of October, so he'll go back to being a desk homebody, which will hopefully mean he won't have to get up at 4am everyday...it might also mean that he won't have to work as much (or any!) overtime, which might just mean the end of our marriage (JUST KIDDING!!!). I only say that since all summer they've been running six or seven days a week for production, and since he's the only supervisor on first shift, he HAS to go in. Like I said, it really seems like I never get to see him. I about went crazy this past weekend because I got to see him for three days straight!! :) I think that's about all of an update that I have though, lol.
