only in Japan

After work I had my adult English conversation class, which went swimmingly. It's so casual! I really enjoy that.

And after that was the division-wide welcome party for me and a trainee from China who arrived maybe a week later. We had dinner at a buffet and I watched my co-workers get increasingly drunk... and then it culminated in.... karaoke!

Not everyone. Out of 35 or so people, 11 of us went to karaoke for the nijikai. 3 women, 8 men -- mostly drunk, middle-aged, married men. I didn't realize this until after we got there, but it was really fun. People become extremely entertaining when drunk.

One of my co-workers ... who is Japanese but really just looks like an eccentric old Russian man (he has a Santa Claus beard, and he always wears striped suspenders!) ... is really sullen and quiet during the day but by the end of the night was singing (and dancing to) a Morning Musume song. I don't think he even was that drunk.

I also came out of the Johnny's closet today (I can never hold it in) and everyone was very amused, but many people do not know who Akanishi Jin is! Endless shock D:

There is even a KAT-TUN gum poster in the combini downstairs! People, people.

I am going to hate myself for staying out so late in the morning, but it was so worth it. I haven't laughed this much in ages.

akanishi jin, work, japan, alcohol
