to wrap up 2008

Dec 31, 2008 21:34

I was watching this random old video on White X'mas, and at the end there's a part where KAT-TUN are asked about the most important news in their lives in 2008. Kame and Ueda talked about how they met new people, Taguchi is apparently gaining new hobbies, Nakamaru was in his first movie, Koki... is weird, and Jin unveiled his:

He wrote: Obama!! And said, Well, it's big in terms of world news.

And then they asked him about this and he was just like ...leave it alone.

Always there to make me smile ♥

Other things:
+ I've gone through one box (the cubic ones) of Kleenex every day for about the last week. It's a good thing my dad went to Costco.

+ Champagne is easier to drink than wine. Still not very pleasant, though!

+ Bai tang gao(白糖糕) success! After 3 tries, it was the version that only took two hours (as opposed to eight) that turned out well.

My BTG right after it came out of the steamer. I used this recipe for that batch, but cut the sugar to ~100g. It was my third day of trying! It's really easy and so yummy. I think next time I have to mix it better or something, though, because the water started to separate.

Before, I was using this recipe, which ended up being way too sweet. The texture was also a lot less firm... and, of course, takes like eight hours.

My mom made tempura soba for dinner because New Year's Eve = noodles.

This show always annoys me a lot and yet I watch it because I always have nothing to do.

The complaint I always have is that it doesn't reflect what was popular that year. In fact, there are acts that they invite every year regardless just for the hell of it. This is especially true of the enka singers. It's not that I hate enka and don't want it or anything, it's just that if at least have singers who were successful or actually released something that year.

This year, the random unnecessary people included: Akikawa Masafumi (please make him stop -- it's the third year?!), Ishikawa Sayuri, Enya (wtf), Mizutani Yutaka, MIKAWA KENICHI (S/HE SINGS SASORIZA NO ONNA EVERY YEAR! THERE ARE NO NEW SONGS! WHY WHY IS S/HE NECESSARY.), Mori Shinichi.

This in combination with the fact that they don't have a lot of 2008 hits, besides Johnny's groups, makes this show so ridiculous. Why is there no Fukuhara Miho, Shimuzu Shota... Shibasaki Kou, Fukuyama Masaharu, ORANGE RANGE, GReeeeN (do they not do lives, perhaps?), etc. etc.

Ahhh my mom is watching it again.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach is a ridiculously fast read. I was expecting something along the lines of The Alchemist or The Little Prince in that it is a story about a seagull that wants to search for its own... higher purpose, kind of thing. I read the reviews and everything and was not expecting a play on the Bible. And I've only read the children's Bible, so it's pretty clear if even I got it. So, it's a critique on Christianity in seagull form. I was more amused and distracted by this format than I was touched by its message.

Letter ~ To the 15 year-old you ~

作詞・作曲: Angela Aki

To the person reading this letter
I wonder where you are, and what you're doing

As a 15 year old, I have worries that have begun to take root
and no one to tell them to

At least in a letter to my future self, I should be able to confess them plainly

Whose words am I to believe?
Right now I'm on the verge of giving up, of crying, of disappearing
I only have this one heart, but it's shattering to pieces
In all of this pain, I continue to live
I continue to live in the present

Greetings! Thank you
There are things I want to say to the 15 year-old you

As long as you keep asking yourself what direction you should head and why
You will begin to see

The raging ocean of youth is harsh, but
continue on, toward the shores of tomorrow on your raft of dreams

Believe in your own voice, and keep on walking
During those times when you feel like you'll give up or cry or disappear
As an adult, I have nights when my scars won't let me sleep
I'm living a bittersweet present

There is a meaning to everything in life
Nourish your dreams without fear
Keep on believing

Whose words am I to believe?
Right now I'm on the verge of giving up, of crying, of disappearing
Ah, during those times when you feel like you'll give up or cry or disappear
Believe in your own voice and keep on walking
In any age, you've got to navigate the sadness to move on
Show your smile, and let's live on in the present
Let's continue to live the present

To you who is reading this letter
I am praying for your happiness

This is what I want to think about in 2009.
