YAMAPI~
Q) What's your favorite day of the week?
A) Saturday! Knowing tomorrow is Sunday is a good feeling. When I was little, I looked forward to Wednesdays, too, because it was the day the anime Dragonball was on TV (laugh). Now, my schedule is busy no matter what day it is, so if the day after is free, I don't care what day of the week it is. Being able to sleep freely without setting an alarm is true happiness~
Q) A question for Yamapi, who is starring in the movie Kurosagi as a con artist. What's an example of a white lie that you've told recently?
A) I haven't really~ oh, but there are times when people call me when I was sleeping and I'll tell them "I wasn't sleeping" for no real reason...
Q) Have you done anything clumsy recently?
A) I played too much golf and had really bad muscle pains the day after. It was really painful from about my shoulder to my back... it was hard to even lift my arm. I went with (Akanishi) Jin, but he was so much better at it than me~~ have him teach me? Never (laugh). I'm the type who will be like, "I'll never lose!" and try really hard.
Q) If you were to have a nickname other than "Yamapi," what would you want?
A) I like "Yamapi." It feels like it has almost become my real name-- I'm really attached to it. The other actors in the drama "Propose Daisakusen" all called me "Pi-tan," but that was based off the "Pi" from "Yamapi," too. By the way, sometimes people would accidentally call me "Piitaa" [like Peter!] (laugh).
Q) Last night, what did you do before sleeping?
A) I was watching the late airing of the movie "Pacchigi." It was really good~ there was a fighting scene, and the intensity overwhelmed me. During the fight scenes for the PV for "Daite Señorita," I remember that they explained that we should do it like the scenes in Pacchigi... so I finally realized what they were talking about (laugh). The movies that you watch at a whim late at night are surprisingly good a lot of the time.
Q) What one thing do you think girls definitely have to be able to do?
A) Cooking. Because you wouldn't be able to survive, otherwise (laugh). You don't have to be good at it, but just the feeling of wanting to make things is important. Sometimes, there are girls who from the beginning say that they just don't cook. People all have their own styles, so I wouldn't deny that, but I personally wouldn't like it.
Q) To the other members, what's the one thing you want them to stop?
A) Tegoshi plays really energetic music in the dressing room a lot. It's usually okay, but at times when I want to sleep, it's a nuisance. When I say, "Tegoshi, it's kind of loud.." he says, "I'm sorry. Then, what about this song~ ♪” and just changes the song, but that's not the point! (laugh)
Q) Promote your new song, "weeeek"!
A) It's a really bright, positive song both in terms of melody and lyrics. I think that if you sang it at karaoke, it would really get everyone energized. My favorite phrase is around "megezu ni egao de~" [Keep your smile without giving up~]. It's a song that will put you in the mood to get through the whole week happily!
Q) Whenever I watch horror movies, I can't sleep at night (cry). When you're so scared that you can't sleep, what do you do?
A) That happens sometimes. I just give up and turn on the lights in the room. I read books or watch TV, and as soon as I start I get really sleepy (laugh). Even though I was really anxious about being afraid and needing to sleep, I think that you can find relief by just letting that go.
Q) What is your favorite color? I like white!
A) I like white too, and black. White looks really clean and refreshing, and it's a color that makes you look like an adult. When I choose clothes, I have a lot of white and black. Outside of those colors, I also like red and orange.
TEGOSHI YUUYA
Q) You're turning 20 on November 11, but what is your vision of an ideal adult?
A) A funky and adventurous person, I think. If you want an example, someone like Takahashi Katsunori, who I was in the drama "Gachibaka" with. He does rock, and is like the cool older brother type that I admire a lot.
Q) When was the last time you cried, and why?
A) On the way to our Taiwan tour, I bought a romance novel [not the trashy kind, just like a love story] at the airport. I was reading it in the airplane and at the hotel, and it was reaally sad, and I ended up crying by myself (laugh). I can't talk about the details, but it had scenes that were really heartbreaking and dreary... my tears just naturally started coming out...
Q) Please tell us what's inside your bag today!
A) My cell phone music player and charger. And, a sound recorder that I connect to my player to use, and an antenna to listen to the radio. I also have a handkerchief and cologne. My wallet is always in my pocket, so I don't put it in my bag. I'm too lazy to keep taking things in and out of my bag, so the same things are always inside (laugh).
Q) What is your favorite animal?
A) Lion! Because it's the king of all the beasts. I think it's so cool that it stands at the top of the animal world and reigns over the others. I also really love dogs. If I were to have a pet, I would definitely want a dog. I don't think I would want to have a pet lion, because I would get eaten (laugh)!
Q) If you were to be reborn, would you want to be a man or a woman?
A) They say childbirth is so painful that it's not even imaginable... since I don't think I would be able to bear it, I'll choose man! (laugh) Plus, I'm very satisfied with being male right now, so I don't really have any desires to be a woman. I wouldn't mind trying it for a week, though.
Q) Do you still go to karaoke with Massu like before?
A) We haven't been able to go recently. Before, up to the time that we became TegoMasu and put out a CD, we didn't really have a place to sing on TV or anything, so we went a lot. We sang KinKi Kids songs really often. I would usually be (Domoto) Tsuyoshi's part. I want to go again soon ♪
Q) Was it a lot of work to get into your wig and kimono for the drama "Shabake"?
A) The wig was really troublesome! I would get rashes on my skin, and during breaks I wouldn't be able to lie down and sleep. Also, it changes the direction in which my hair grows! (laugh) Because I was wearing the wig for over 12 hours a day, my bangs that used to be parted at the side ended up parted in the middle (laugh). I got used to the kimono really soon, so that was okay. Except when I went to the bathroom, it was a hassle because I had to take everything off.
Q) What did you talk about with your "Shabake" co-star, Takaki Yuuya?
A) The first time I really talked with him was during the recording for the drama. Because I'm really shy, I didn't really know how to approach him at first, so I talked to him and tried to find out more about him. Like, "what kinds of girls do you like?" (laugh) If you're interested, Takaki-kun said he likes really natural types.
Q) Did you have Koyama and Shige help you pack this time in Taiwan, like they did when you went to Hawaii together?
A) Ahaha (laugh). This time, I did it by myself. I'm not good at packing, but I usually do it on my own. In Hawaii, Shige and Kei-chan where there so I was like, "Pack for me, please ♥" (laugh). I always unintentionally end up depending on those two.
Q) Tell us about the new album, "pacific"!
A) It has solo songs, and songs that members wrote the lyrics to, and this time, content-wise it is packed with our individual characteristics. After all, it has been 2 and a half years. If you listen to, I think you'll definitely like NEWS!
MASSU
Q) You said you would shout "Shouronpou" [Xiao long bao, type of Chinese-style bun with meat inside] at your concert in Taiwan -- were you able to do it?
A) Of course. It was so frantic that "Shouronpou" was just about all I could say. Well, that's a lie, but I did really say it. Because I said it the last time I went to Taiwan, I'll do it again~ it was a really simple reason, but still. Even though I just said "Shouronpou," the fans got really excited for me. It felt kind of good (laugh). The fans in Taiwan were really enthusiastic, too.
Q) Tell us about memories of the Taiwan concert, or anything that left an impression on you.
A) Probably the fact that the typhoon forced us to cancel the first performance, and that we couldn't rehearse because the power outage made the sound equipment stop working. Besides that, during the concert, Tegoshi made a mistake while flying and fell under the stage! When I realized it, Tegoshi was already down there and I was shocked. I'm so glad he wasn't hurt~~
Q) What's something that someone said to you that you can't forget?
A) Someone told me I was indecisive, and that was a shock. I was really happy when someone told me my voice was good. It was the President of the agency that told me my voice was good. But, despite the voice, I'm not often told that I'm good at singing. Nishikido says that "Tegoshi is good at singing, but Massu just has a good voice" ... but, in the end, people praise my voice (laugh).
Q) What have you bought recently, or what item have you been wanting to buy?
A) Ahh-- about a week ago, I got simple white sneakers. I haven't bought sneakers in a really long time. By the way, my size is 27cm. What I want next is a black coat with thick material. I have something similar, but I think it would be nice to have one new one, too...
Q) During your birthday this year, what kind of message or presents did you get from the members?
A) Surprisingly, everyone texted me right after midnight came. Content-wise, they all said something like "Happy birthday!" I was really happy, so I have all of those messages saved securely. Present-wise, Shige got me a wallet chain that I had been wanting. (Glancing at Koyama, who was nearby) I haven't gotten anything from Koyama yet!
Q) What do you like to put in your miso soup?
A) Huh, but I like everything? I like seaweed and radish and tofu, and I like pork miso soup, too. But, if I had to choose, my favorite might be nameko mushrooms--.
Q) What was your childhood dream?
A) From first grade to sixth grade, I was in the local soccer team, so I wanted to be a soccer player. But, I wasn't really that serious. Around fourth grade, I realized that I wasn't that good, so I wouldn't be able to be a professional soccer player (laugh). After that, I became a Junior, so my dream changed. Rather than debut, I just wanted to be in a lot of concerts and TV shows.
Q) When you see your own poster somewhere, how do you react?
A) First, I think, "Oh? Whoaa!" (laugh) But, I don't really have a special reaction. It might be kind of awkward for someone to see me standing in front of my own poster or in front of our CD display. Rather than being embarrassed, my feelings of being happy are stronger.
Q) What is the "bu-tan" that showed up in "MachiMASU" doing now?
A) It's in the Japanese-style room in my house... staring into space (laugh).
Q) Are the two of you in TegoMasu still going to karaoke together?
A) Umm, we haven't really gone the last 2 or 3 months. But, we have a lot of chances to sing together at concerts, so it's not lonely (laugh).
NISHIKIDO RYO
Q) Ryo-chan, why are you so cool?
A) Haha, I wonder why (laugh). I don't really look at myself and think that.
Q) When you guys use dressing rooms, who is the one that makes the biggest mess?
A) Definitely me! I scatter things all over the place. To make things worse, the area that I occupy is really big, too. I pull out my baggage rapidly and spread it all out. Even I look at it and think, "this is awful" (laugh). But even if I say it's messy, it's not like I'm spilling food or anything. Plus, even if I take my stuff out, when it's time to leave, I put everything away again, so at the end, it's clean again.
Q) Since when have people been calling you "Ryo-chan"?
A) I don't know, ever since I was little. In kindergarten, I used to be called "Dou." Because I couldn't say "Ryo" when I was small, I'm told that I would introduce myself as "Nishikido Dou" (laugh). Now, everyone either calls me "Ryo" or "Ryo-chan."
Q) Is there a dish on the Nishikido family menu that you would say is your family's unique taste?
A) Chikuzen-ni [chicken stew with carrots, burdock, other veggies]. The chikuzenni my mother makes is really good. I can't think of any anecdotes, but it just came to mind immediately as our family's cooking.
Q) Who is the last person you spoke to on your cell phone?
A) (Checks phone) Umm, my mother called me this morning. (A typhoon hit Osaka a few days ago) so I asked her if everyone was okay. "It was fine. I was sleeping the whole time, and I barely noticed," my mom said.
Q) What do you wear when you're sleeping, and what kinds of things do you sleep with?
A) My bed cover is made of silk. My pillow and sheets are both navy blue. When I sleep, a lot of the time I'm naked... yesterday, I wore black shorts and a black T-shirt. Yeah, just like what I wore to the studio today. To tell the truth, I came directly here right after waking up (laugh).
Q) When do you think of yourself as having a lavish lifestyle?
A) Two days ago, I had a day off, so I woke up and called Yasu (Yasuda)... we had ramen together, and then went to look at a musical instrument store. After that, I called a beauty salon and went just to have my hair shampooed (laugh). It's kind of extravagant to go just to wash my hair, right? On top of that, I went to have ramen and went shopping, so the whole day was really luxurious!
Q) If you weren't in Johnny's, what would you be doing now?
A) I wonder~~ I have no idea. Maybe I'd be in college. I would probably be a surprisingly normal office worker. Ohh, but if I were in the publishing department at duet's publisher, I would be selling tons of books. Not just magazines, but I would also rapidly push out bestselling books and other publications.
Q) Tell us about something you cooked recently.
A) Caprese (a Capri-style salad with tomato, cheese, basil, olive-oil). You slice the tomato, then arrange the cheese, so it's a very easy dish. I didn't have a guest or anything, I just really made it myself and ate it by myself. I really love raw mozarella cheese! So on my way home, I bought the cheese and tomatoes and made it. I even took a picture of the final product with my phone (laugh) and send it to my friends, saying "look what I made."
Q) Of the dreams you've had recently, are there any you remember?
A) There's one dream I have pretty often, but it's one where I lose in a fight to a small kid (laugh). In the dream, my punches have no effect at all. When my eyes opened, I wondered why my punches didn't work, so I even tried it by punching my friend who was sleeping next to me as hard as I could. Then, out of pain, he sprang awake, so I immediately pretended to be asleep to throw him off (laugh). [Ryo is so hilarious!]
