an open letter to chauvinistic bastards
not that there are any on my flist. I just need to vent. in response to the last post, some girls have been posting on the group's wall and getting personal and racist attacks (you're so ugly. you're so fast. are you a korean dyke?).
I want to say--
It doesn't matter what you say to us. We don't know you, and with any luck, we never will. But if, somewhere along the way, the rumors are true and boys do eventually mature-- if, somehow, you find someone who doesn't find you abhorrent and start a family... If you have a daughter, and watch her grow up, I want you to remember how you once called a woman ugly and fat for disagreeing with you, because you had no other grounds with which to argue. I want you to remember how you said it was okay to rape women, and that they like it. That women are nothing more than sexual objects and should be nothing more than slaves to men. I want you to remember that you called them "femenazis", "fat hos", "dykes" for asking for respect as human beings. And then I want you to look your daughter in the eye and fucking apologize for the world you've created with your ignorance.
I want to say it so very badly, but I won't. Because I still do live in a world where, just a little bit, women are not as strong and not as important and not as powerful. But that will change. Maybe after two more years, I'll be less afraid. After all, that's why I'm here.
