life, immigrant-style

I moved into a dormitory-style house in Yutenji today for the month. Keeping in mind that my only criteria were price and location - I didn't even look at the pictures of the rooms really until I was already on the list - I suppose I shouldn't have been so surprised (read: horrified) at what I found.

The room I'm in is oddly shaped but is kinda like two adjoining rooms and mine is 15 x 15 feet or so. The other one is smaller, and in our room there are 5 bunk beds. The entirety of my old apartment was larger than the space where 6 of us are currently sleeping, and I only paid $200 more a month.

Space comes with a huge premium! Especially if you don't want to bother with deposits and payments to the realtor and time requirements.

Oh, and so in total I think that there are 16 people living in this house. There are two toilets (as in toilets, not bathrooms) and one shower.

Getting a look at the place before I left for "work" today, I was plagued with dread about coming back all day, but it's been really quiet and I was even able to shower without waiting at all.

We'll see what the morning's like.

21? days left.
