I don't get along with most salespeople, but the head of our US team is especially irritating.
I gave a brief presentation this morning about some new policies/processes. I concede that I am not a presentation master and I didn't allot much time, the format was shaky, etc, but I answered questions when they came up and didn't brush anyone off.
At one point, I was talking about how we aren't suited to take jobs that are a certain file type because our system doesn't support them.
Ridiculous US Man-child: Everything you said made sense up until here, but you know, X file types are very standard in the industry and I don't get how that makes this content unsuitable.
Me: Well, this may be short-term until we can support them, but the bottom line now even if they are standard is that we don't support them, so they are a hassle to work with.
RUM: You know these are a very common file type in the industry, so I don't think blah blah blah blah blah we have this upcoming job where blah blah blah moneyyyyyyy
Me: ......was that a question? (spoiler: it wasn't)
RUM: No, I think it was just that this file type is blah blah blah blah blah it's not the same as requiring something special blah blah
Me: I get what you're saying but I think that even if it's common it's not suitable because our system can't take it.
He got grumpy after this, at one point saying is this a lecture or are we allowed to ask questions? and after I asked if anyone had any questions and no one said anything, he left the table immediately before we hung up.
What a temperamental bitch!
Immediately after I was done, one of my US co-workers pings me to say that RUM was pissed at me and his opinion is important because it permeates the US office.
I don't see how keeping him in a good mood is my job, and how making him like me is my concern. I am where I am because I know more about our system than anyone else, and because I know what we can and can't do. If you don't want to listen to me, you're going to fuck up and keep us from doing other things right.
That was completely uncalled for. I just don't understand how these people get where they are.
