my favorite sport

I went to watch sumo again today with Wenjin-- not the real 15-day tournament, but a day-long tournament-style event sponsored by Fuji TV. Tournament-style means I got to watch Hakuho in 4 matches in one sitting, which would never happen otherwise, so it was a pretty unique thing.

Considering how easily grossed out I get, you'd think fat mostly-naked men would sound all the alarms, but I always enjoy it a lot-- and there is something graceful? aesthetically-pleasing about their bodies, especially Hakuho... Aminishiki, Harumafuji, Kotooshuu are a few of my favorites. (Funny-- I can't watch men in ballet but sumo...)

Unfortunately my favorites suck. This is a separate issue.

There was chibikko-zumo (with children, demonstration) and shokkiri (demonstration of moves that aren't allowed) -- also very entertaining. Just 1000yen for the day! A greaaaaaaat deal.

Afterward, we went to a kaiten-zushi place in Tsujiki. Neither of us had had sushi in a while. I discovered the glory of aburi-engawa (seared flounder fin? not really a fin, I think...) and the botan-ebi (spot prawn?) was also heavenly... I need to treat myself more. A little.

Home later than I wanted, less sleep than I'd hoped for (I woke up early and exercised!) but a good day and a good weekend.
