SWEET UPDATE! NOW WITH FIXD PIX!!!

Greetings from your wayward friend!  I came to the realization today that I've been neglecting my posting duties like a red-headed step-child, so here is your grand old fashion update.

Since we last spoke, I've recieved some unfortunate news.  My great-great aunt, who is a little over 93 years old, seems to be in the midst of the sunset of her life.  I got a call early last week from my mom telling me that aunt Grace wasn't expected to make it through the night.  This saddened me and got me down a bit, but thankfully I found myself feeling much better after a chat with a good friend.  That was Monday night.  It's now Tuesday almost a week later and aunt Grace is still hanging in there - not able to talk or move much, but she's giving death a run for its money.  Though I'm not naive enough to think that this isn't the end, I am convinced that if there is ANYONE who could pull through something like this, it would be aunt Grace.  My biggest regret right now is that I didn't go to visit more often before I moved - aunt Grace was like a second grandmother to me all my life.  I wish that I could go home to see her before she bows out, but I know that if she were coherent and knew all that I'd be missing to go home (school, band, etc.) she would be very upset with me.  Until then, she will be constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

I've been up here over a month now.  This breaks the record for the longest stretch of time I have ever been away from home, which until now, stood at 3 weeks.  Every now and then, I find myself feeling a bit homesick - even though I was usually extremely bored at home, I always enjoyed dinner and shopping with mother, relaxing at the lake, driving back and forth to Three Rivers, and so on.  However, I haven't really had a whole lot of time to be homesick.  Band keeps me very busy, and class adds a nice garnish to my daily routine.  Classes aren't really hard, just a lot of reading that can be challenging to keep up on.

This weekend is the much awaited MSU vs. Notre Dame game.  It will be played here at Spartan Stadium under the lights, which I think will be very cool.  We are going to be doing a Broadway show ("Circle of Life" from the Lion King, "Aquarius" from Hair, and a medley of tunes from "Wicked" for our closer) which sounds a bit tacky, but is actually a pretty badass show.  Of course, since it is a big game, the pressure is on for us to perform at our highest level - both on the field Saturday night and on the practice field every day.  We will be hosting the Notre Dame band, which I am very excited about.  Hopefully our team will give us another win to celebrate - not that likely, but we can hope.

I realize that reading about the things I've been doing lately is extremely dry, so why not give you a brief picture show to let you see all the Big Fun I've been having...

I've waited for this for a long time...

My dad and I before march to the stadium...

"Hooah on 3!"

My very first pregame in the right uniform...

Marching Series at the Eastern game...

My pal Holly and I...

After we blew Eastern out of the water, we went down to the field to play the fight song and celebrate with the team.  There was a wall of cheerleaders separating the band from the team - I managed to break their defenses and was standing between the cheerleaders and the players.  After we finished playing, I patted one of the players on the shoulder, then gave Sparty a hug.  And yes, for the record, I was covered in Sparty funk afterwards.

In the Spartan Marching Band, you can see the world.  This me seeing and conquering Pittsburgh.
