Today was a nice change from assholes and elbows. I worked with Tommy the dirty irishmen driving in the bariatric unit . We were to pick up two paramedics from Med Flight ( Boston's Life star ) at Bradley Airport. They accompanied us in the "war wagon," to JDH to pick up a neonatal infant. Tom and I helped them load up their isolet which weighs 600 pounds of milled iron shit. The baby was no bigger than a bread box at less than 4 lbs. We met the parents which was a trip in and of itself. Tom drove us all back to the airfield, including Mom. In the back the medics joked about getting home around midnight sometime. When we reached the airfield Mom took a picture of all of us. Tom later on told me she was going to show her son pictures of all of us when he gets older. She wanted to let him known who helped him his first two months in this world.
It was a good feeling to be part of that.
At the end of my shift today outside Hartford Hospital I had my earned cigarette. I finally approached the security guard. It ended up being Billy whom i haven't seen in maybe 3 years. It made sense to me that he became a security guard. Tough son of a bitch and I've always liked him. It was strange having a conversation while we were both in our uniforms. We had a few smokes and exchanged the missing parts of our lives. Apparently his wife is pregneant with twins this time. That makes four kids .. I wish him all the best and holy shit he'll need it. A few city calls. Went city bus for an hour. A few emergency calls and the day faded out.
Now I'm going back to the apartment for a shower and Otis Redding. I can't stop playing that godamn record. It's nestled between black flag and Van Morrison and It puts me to sleep everytime whether or not I want to or not..
