[ Ms. Tempe Brennan loves to roam the streets of the City after it begins to get dark and the flickering lights illuminate everything softly. The wealthy and the poor, the wicked and the goody two-shoes alike come out to play, and something especially mysterious is in the air. However, tonight she's not as happy as she usually would be. She's

I gotta say, I agree with you. Ought to be a rule that's obeyed.
[He holds his hand out to take hers and kiss it in greeting]
Rick Castle.

Glad to see someone still has manners in this place.
[Smiles and bends her knees slightly, dropping into a cheeky curtsy.]
Temperance Brennan. A pleasure. Say, you're that poet, aren't you?

[Her acknowledgment of his poetry makes him chuckle and preen just a bit. He's not so famous that he gets noticed much so when he does it's quite an ego booster]
Indeed I am. It is a pleasure to meet you Ms. Brennan.
[After all, he's American. Madame and Mademoiselle aren't titles he's adopted yet.]

In that case, my compliments to your mother, she raised you well.
I figured, Mr. Castle. I know a fellow American when I see one. And what little I've read of your work wasn't bad, either.
[She nods her head at the journal he's holding.]
Working on something new?

[He smiles at both the fact that she's an American and that she thinks his work isn't bad]
I am. I am. Although I'm not quite certain as to what yet.
So how does a fellow American come to be in a City like this? I can see you've thrown yourself into the lifestyle [His words are accompanied by a gesture to her outfit]

[She's used to flattering men in her occupation, but this time she really means it. Brennan smirks wider, noting the tiny linger of his gaze around the generous cleavage her corset reveals. At least he doesn't stare blatantly like some would: he really does have manners.]
Oh, I've been traveling here and there, after better life and bigger coin. You know how it goes. This place is as good as any, I reckon. Can't beat the atmosphere, at the very least.
[She brushes one hand casually against her skirt as if dusting it off.] Ah, yes. Dancing, while not my ideal occupation, does bring in some cash. Right now, that's all I care about.

It is an exciting place to be right now. Full of inspiration for most anything.
[He shrugs because he understands that a job is sometimes a stepping stone] Whatever keeps you going until you get to where you want to be.
Particularly if you know where you're going. Do you Ms. Brennan?

[She laughs a low, throaty laugh at the irony.]
I do know. However, as it was my misfortune to be born as a woman, my dreams of sciences are probably in vain. But it doesn't stop me from educating myself on my scarce free time. Never say never.
But more immediately, I am going to the closest pub for a good glass of whiskey.

In a city such as this? Everything and everyone.
Perhaps you'll meet an enlightened scientist that doesn't underestimate the power a woman has.
Perhaps I could accompany you?

[Very well, Mr. Castle, keep your secrets. Brennan isn't going to pursue the underlying causes, knowing everyone has them. Instead, she smiles a feline smile, dropping her chin slightly in a show of demureness that doesn't really exist. But one cannot blame a working girl for trying, right?]
Well, that depends. How do you feel about offering a girl a drink?

I feel very good about offering a girl a drink. How do you feel about accepting it?

[With a grin, she takes the offered arm.]
Shall we?

[And off they go]
Did you have a particular pub in mind or will any one do?

[She glances sideways at him, smiling a little.]
Whereabouts America are you from, if you don't mind me asking?
Reply
I'm from New York City and I don't mind you asking at all. In fact, I'd ask you the same thing. We're a bit of anomaly here.
[ooc: Did you want to take them into one of the logs or go with a generic bar? I'm game either way.]

It does seem so, doesn't it? I hail from Chicago, myself. I lived there until I was sixteen, then my parents passed and I've been traveling ever since. Restless feet.
[ooc: Generic bar is fine, I have to go to bed soon cause it's really late here, woe, but I can backlog or something tomorrow.]
