David Boreanaz has booked his first post-Bones role.

The actor has signed onto star in CBS' untitled Navy SEAL drama pilot, replacing Jim Caviezel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The project follows the lives of the elite unit as they train and plan the most dangerous, high-stakes missions our country can ask. Boreanaz will play Jason, the respected, committed leader of his assault team who's been through over a dozen deployments.

Caviezel exited the project over creative differences. The cast also includes Jessica Pare (Mad Men), Max Thieriot, Neil Brown Jr., A.J. Buckley and Toni Trucks.

Ben Cavell (Sneaky Pete, Homeland) penned the script and will executive produce alongside Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly. Chris Chulack (Shameless, ER) is also on board to exec produce and direct the pilot, which hails from CBS Television Studios.

For Boreanaz, the casting comes a week ahead of the series finale of Bones, on which he has starred for the past 12 seasons. The veteran actor also served as a producer on the Fox procedural and directed several episodes. His other TV credits include his breakout role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel, in which Boreanaz starred.
