Title: Ready
Characters: Angela/Jack
Rated: PG
Word Count: 285
Summary: Post-'The Man in the Mansion'. A conversation in the parking lot of Terry's funeral.
A/N: Ha. Hope it still fits criteria even if the car doesn't go anywhere. And, wow, this is really short, even for me.
Angela hardly noticed the steady stream of people going into the funeral home. She was more concerned with the man sitting beside her. When she'd pulled into the parking lot, it had been virtually empty. Now, nearly ten minutes later, it was starting to fill up, and Jack had yet to make a move to get out of her car.
"Jack? Are you ready to go in yet?" she asked softly.
"I suppose we should, shouldn't we?" His face was a myrad of emotions.
Angela nodded. "When you're ready."
Jack looked out the window. "I feel like I shouldn't be here."
"Why not? Terry was your friend, remember?" She sat her elbow on the steering wheel and rested her head against the palm of her hand.
"I haven't spoken to Terry since I found him with Clarissa. He hasn't been my friend in eight years."
"But he was your friend before that. And this could be your last chance to make things right with him."
Jack gave Angela a pained look. "He's dead. I'm not going to do any reconciling with him now."
"Maybe not, but you'll feel better," she said, giving him her warmest smile. "Don't think about why he wasn't your friend, think about why is was your friend. Remember all those stories you told me about him yesterday. Remember why you jepordized your job to bring your friend's killer to justice."
"This still doesn't feel right." His eyes swept the parking lot. "Funeral's never do." Angela's voice was choked with emotion. Both memories and concern for Jack threatened to break her calm. She reached across the center consol and took his hand in hers. "We'll go in when you're ready," she repeated.
