Databook quotes:
(This is what the databook has to say about Kimimaro. It's kind of repetitive, but then again, so is the character.)

"A clan which pursued a way of downfall in battle. A mountain of corpses he has gathered. And, a sickness that attacks him. It is as if Kimimaro's life is cursed, death following him everywhere. In such a blood-stained path, Kimimaro shows a surprising lack of sentiment, and is unconcerned. But his inside which reflects impassivity is satisfied by only one feeling. For Orochimaru, for his ambitions, for a dream. He should serve his master... Dyeing his swords with blood, Kimimaro dances exquisitely."

"The idea of "bonds" and "emotion" towards his fellow Sound shinobi does not exist in his heart. All that exists is a cold mission feeling."

"A "dream vessel", broken by a fatal disease. He does not fear the death which will come from his disease. He feels despair from losing the interest of Orochimaru... Originally, his body was a vessel. He deals with the irony of his destiny, and goes to fight... His body is expected to be on the verge of death, but he moves around
lightly. The thoughts of putting his life on the line for the mission gives him power...!"

"As the vessel for the Nikutai Tensei jutsu, Kimimaro was given a reason to exist. Orochimaru's dream satisfied his own soul... For that sensation, Kimimaro remembered that supreme happiness and intoxication. But suddenly, the fatal disease that attacked his body woke him from that dream..."

"His purpose as a vessel snatched away, Kimimaro's heart turned into nothingness, and thoughts came and went. The meaning of life, the meaning of existence, what
are they...? Instead of rotting away in his sickbed, he embraces a death towards his dream. Kimimaro, with this wish and without holding back, has the impulse of "I want to go", for the sake of Orochimaru. And finally, in the end, Kimimaro finds the remaining fragments of the dream in himself. The vessel Orochimaru pursues...Kimimaro will at least give himself towards this sorrowful mission to bring back Sasuke..."

"An unbreakable mind, for the sake of his master... The immeasurable feelings that Kimimaro relates are everything to him."

"The reason Orochimaru desired Kimimaro is solely because of the "strongest" battle ability flowing in his blood. The bloodline limit, Shikotsumyaku. It implements a perfect attack and flawless defence, that is like the power of a god or a demon. And now that the disease has cut him off, with that power...Kimimaro fights. His life burns for the mission."

"In the course of his battle with Konoha and Sand shinobi, Kimimaro finds sufficiency in his life. The happiness he has fighting for Orochimaru satisfies his heart... While feelings that he has never experienced flood his heart, the spirit of Kimimaro, freed from a body in agony, heads towards "the place it should be". In the place of the dead, the ones who have completed their life mission alone may arrive there, to an eternal life."

POOR EMO PUPPY.

Anyway, so Kimimaro's obviously got it bad for Orochimaru to the point of complete and total obsession. He's also pretty damn badass, and I think a lot of people tend to forget that. Kabuto says, at one point, "no one can defeat Kimimaro" (or was that an anime-only thing?). I mean, that's not a very true statement, but it's something to consider. When we saw him fight, he was basically on his deathbed, and the fact that Orochimaru said, paraphrased, "the assasination of the Kazekage would have gone much more smoothly had he been around"... yeah. He's strong. He's got an incredibly strong defence, and an even more deadly offence. Gaara's badass sand moves could not crush him. He just kept getting back up, even when the skin and muscle was literally ripped off part of his face and chest. And that was before he went all LEVEL 2 KIMIZILLA FIGHT and pulled out his spine on Lee and Gaara's asses. (And then he randomly died from AIDS his "mysterious illness".)

Now, he's not invincible. A good genjutsu would throw him, Sharingan would negate most of his "dances", and we've seen that insulting Orochimaru throws him into a kind of frenzy, making him act on emotion and not Earth Logic. I don't think taijutsu can do much to him, unless the opponent was incredibly fast and incredibly strong, a la Lee. For this reason, I think that the Sannin, Itachi, Kyuubi!Naruto and the Bleach shinigami would all be able to beat him down without question. Every other ninja is in a grey area, and different factors would need to be analyzed, etc, etc. I'd put him at the same level as post-timeskip Neji, really, since Kimi's stats point towards being jounin level.
