My threshold for red meat is apparently really, really low, probably because I haven't come within a yard of it in nine years. White meat is iffier-- sometimes I find out that the miso broth actually had some pork or chicken stock tossed in, and I still come away more or less unscathed; other times, it redecorates my intestines. I think you have to cut certain meats entirely out of your diet for at least a few years before you become rather unable to digest them, so you've got nothing to worry about if you're doing sort of a "flexitarian" thing.
It's actually not that hard for me to find food, as long as I'm not shopping at a gas station in Podunk, Carnivornia. I'm quite adept at the label game, and the fact that I loves me some fish opens up whole new realms of possibility (though I have noted, alas, that the restaurant fish I get in the States are often not properly delicious. I don't know if it's because of preparation methods or relative freshness or what, but I think Oma may have spoiled me for other seafood). Some things I can just buy kosher, too.
As for feeling better, I intend to hit the hospital on Thursday if I'm not any better. Once more with list of useful Japanese words related to throat problems!
