Today I went out to buy necessary things, on the grounds that the weather will have probably progressed by next weekend from "cold with scattered snowflakes" to "I cannae feel me hands." I now have a new alarm clock with a real bell, like the actual ringing kind that vibrates wildly at the appointed time. The clock is also analogue with glow-in-the-dark hands and a green chrome finish. This thing could be sexier only if it were powered by dark magic and full of roman numerals. Or if it made toast and threw energized playing cards at my foes.
I also bought a cheap strand of blinking lights so short and so stingy on the cord that it's being used to frame my television. And, er, I've just noticed that one of the lights is intermittently illuminating evil!Santa's crotch. I may want to adjust that one a mite.
Anyway, I eventually got down to the real purpose behind my outing and found the CAT-5 cable, which for some reason only came in what I think is cerulean, though my color sense is about on par with a dog's. I'm cool with it-- I just wanted a cable without damage to the plastic end so that it wouldn't keep falling out of the DSL modem. Then I bravely marched down the curtain aisle, reasoning that it was about time to replace the too-short ones I bought over a year ago. Okay, okay, I know I'm slow.
I am pleased to report that I now have curtains that cover the whole window, and as a bonus I got to move the old curtains into the bedroom and make sleeping in even easier. Since my living room is the all-over beige of the 70s and my couch is the hue you get from smooshing all of your Play-Doh together, I didn't even attempt to figure out what color the curtains were supposed to be. I just grabbed the first ones that were long enough and roughly the same color as the CAT-5. Somewhere, an interior decorator is crying.
Today I also picked at some of the goofy pseudo-science I'm developing for the critters in my NaNo project, which culminated in notes like "Run for your lives! The microwave is sentient and desirous of human blood!" and increasingly absurd musings on magical Faraday cages. It's time to back slowly away from the specialized pyrokinesis and find my Call to Power 2 CD. I feel the need to make Wales the sole global superpower.
Oh, and the latest iPod firmware upgrade finally makes mine sync properly! Oh, frabulous day! I probably shouldn't be celebrating, since I'm bound to find a problem by tomorrow morning, but for now there is resounding joy. I just wish the ljkadsfs USB2.0/Firewire card would work...
