Some contributor copies are better than others. When I picked up my copy of
Aurora of the Sun, I was pretty skeptical, since it had a non-traditional square format.
This lasted until the first paragraph of the first story, and I realized that this was a good group of stories which, it turned out, span everything from fairy tale reimaginings to straight SF, always with a certain idealistic bent. The writing is first-rate, and I believe that the collection will appeal to people who generally aren't exposed to my work, since there's quite a bit of urban fantasy and "gentle" fantasy (not sure how else to refer to that particular subgenre dealing with a poignant sense of loss) in here.
(As a disclaimer, my own tale is a bit of a romp, a comic retelling of a Grimm tale entitled "Crystal Ball Blues".)
Favorite story? It had to be Seastedia by Steven Southard, which left me wanting more in that universe, although the ending makes that unlikely...
