Good news of the long weekend was that I got word from Flatwater Press that my intro for The Thirty-Nine Steps has been accepted, and that the book will be entering the editing/publication process shortly. Always a nice sense of relief when a comissioned project meets the editor's expectations!
This isn't my first introduction for Flatwater Press, and I always enjoy doing them (and I know that other authors reading this have also done intros for this particular publisher). I'm especially proud of the one I did for
their edition of Heart of Darkness. It's always irritated me that this masterpiece has been the subject of so much post-colonial revisionism in which the true greatness of the work is pushed aside so that people can use it to push their agendas. The introduction is an attempt to once and for all remove the silly stigmas that critical race theorists have assigned to the book and analyze it once more as a window into the human condition. Controversial? Some might find it so... But necessary; a book such as this one must not fall prey to revisionist agendas.
If anyone buys a copy, I'd love to hear your thoughts - Heart of Darkness is a book that deserves to be discussed.
