The best part of the writing business

One of the very greatest things about writing is simply coming into contact with enormously talented people.  I often talk about the writers, but the truth is that artists are also incredible.

Last week, the enormously (unbelievably, actually) talented Mariano Vidal sent me what he calls a "rough sketch" of a piece of art he's working on for my children's story "The Big City".  Now, Mariano is one of the best 2-D animators in the world, so I was expecting something stunning.  Just not quite this stunning  (I've placed the image beneath the cut in order to keep r0k0  from berating me!).  You really want to see this...

Writing news: 1100 words into The Malakiad means that only about 11,000 words left, and it's done.  Who says you can't write a novel in five ears (all right, so this one has been an on and off project, but it will be done by December 31st, I swear it!)!

Other stuff (very important!!):  have you entered the Tenth Orbit giveaway?  Anyone can enter, it's free, and it will give you a chance to win a signed copy of the collection.  Details here.
