The pick // Summer Darkness 2012

Jul 28, 2012 10:49

Last weekend, during aikido summer school,

a tooth pick broke when I was using it,
and a piece of it was stuck between two molars. It felt like it was about 3-4 mm long,
judging from probing with my tongue. It has been bugging me all week, but it finally
came your yesterday evening.

This was, of course, after I had made an appointment with my dentist 2 days ago for
this morning (at 8:40). I cancelled the meeting by leaving a voice mail message at
about 8:00. I guess I'll still have to pay something for late cancellation.

In other news, this weekend is the 10th, anniversary, edition of Summer Darkness,
the Goth/Industrial/Metal/Folk music, dance, art and lifestyle festival that is held
yearly in the city where I live (Utrecht). This year it's a week earlier (it's usually
first week of August, which, btw, allows me to go to Castlefest this year).

Anyway, day 1, I saw:

Sieben (Matt Howden, of Sol Invictus fame): bought 2 CD's and T-shirt.

Finvarra: Dutch folk band, danced a few balfolk together with friends and acquaintances:
gigue, scottisch, hanter dro. There was also a mazurka and a 3 time waltz (but I skipped
those, the first for lack of a dancing partner, the second because my 3 time waltz still
sucks). They are playing again tonight. Will definitely try to be there.

In the background during visiting the market between to the 2 shows above (wanted to buy
a new shirt, haven't found a good one yet, maybe today or tomorrow) we heard Triarii
(bombastic folk) doing their gig.

Afterward we were off to the Bal du Masque (in the main venue, Tivoli). There was a
performance of (Greek) performance group and band "Dirty Granny Tales". This was
very interesting. alexilian bought some of the CD's and I am curious how they will
sound on CD.

Most of the afternoon was spent by us in the company of Merel (I don't know if she
has an LJ; I suspect not, she's a Facebookie). I know her from Balfolk and got
to chat with her after attending a gig of the band (Anim'Animus) she's in.Unexpectedly,
she also came  to dinner with us. Dinner was at the really good (modern) Turkish
cuisine restaurant  Selina. I can recommend this one heartily even to vegetarians;
even though Turkish restaurants in the Netherlands are generally not very suitable for
vegetarians. We only had about 30 minutes to order and have dinner. I don't know how
they did it, but we had food in 10 minutes and we were out in 30 minutes. Maybe it helped
that they knew us (alexilian and me) because we regularly have dinner there on
Wednesdays.

Tomorrow, probably, another Summer Darkness update.
