The Day After Quint's First Broadcast

Aug 30, 2008 10:49

I'd give myself a B+.

Pros
I got comfortable quickly adjusting to a three-man booth.
I didn't mispronounce anyone's name! :-P
I conveyed the excitement of a football game in the second half.
I made the halftime segment work.

(This requires a bit of explanation. First, we had to interview someone with the school at halftime. The trouble was that we didn't know that we had to. Thankfully, the superintendent at Rusk was in the press box watching the game, so we interviewed him. I did a great interview to have absolutely no questions ready for him. Heh. Then, when the interview ended, we still had 12 minutes before the third quarter, so I adlibbed, threw it to the third guy in the booth since one of us had to do the band introductions, and played commercials like I'd been there before. Whoo-hoo!)

Cons
There were moments when I spoke too fast. I have to work on slowing it down so the excitement doesn't leave but I also sound clear.
At the beginning of halftime, I panicked and wasn't sure what to do. In those situations of dead air, I have to make decisions faster.
I found myself getting lost in the game at some points. Remember, Quint, you're not just watching as a fan anymore. (I did get better at that in the second half, hence the pro farther up the page.)
I have to find out which knob controls the commercial volume so I can know which knobs to turn up and down during commercials. A few times, I had us come back in too soon.

So, all in all, it was a good performance for my first time. I hope to take this and get better. :-)

I'm going to Nacogdoches today to watch SFA play. They'll probably lose because they're SFA, but I got nothing to do in Rusk. I'll probably stay through Labor Day, so if I don't catch you online, I'll see you all on Tuesday. Be safe, everyone. :-)
