I really don't have the time to be doing this but I'm going to write about work right now, anyway.
Things at the studio are going great for me and I'm so busy I don't know what to do with myself. I fall asleep early and often as a result. I'm teaching four classes.
On Tuesdays, I go to an elementary school to teach Kind/1st grade ballet after school.
On Wednesdays, I teach "Dancing Creatures" at our Leavitt St. studio. It's a pre-preschool class. We do 45 minutes of Pre Ballet class, then have a story and/or a craft or game, then lunch. I get a huge kick out of these kids. They're all about 3 or 4 years old. After that it's back to the elementary school fo 2nd/3rd grade Jazz. This is a huge fucking challenge because there's 15 of them and they're all fucking hyper and crazy. It's a work in progress.
Finally, on Thursday, I go to the same elementary school to teach Hip Hop to 4th-8th graders. It's probably my favorite genre to teach not just because it's fun, but because I think I posess more of a knack for teaching it because Hip Hop didn't come naturally to me. I don't think I really got it until I was about 20 or so. So, that said, I think I'm pretty good at knowing how to explain things from a real novice perspective.
Otherwise, I'm in the studio office at 9am. On the phone with the boss, my nose in some excel sheet, registering kids, fitting shoes, selling leotards, booking birthday parties, taking payments, inventory, ordering merchandise, and now I'm handling the people who rent the space from us for their own classes, and apparently I'm supposed to go through resumes and be the first person potential new hires will have to "pass".
Then run to that elementary school.
Then run back to the studio.
Then, sometimes, run to Cleos to waitress.
Then... I'm kinda beat.
But I'm also excited. My boss is pregnant. We'll see what this means for me. I'm thinking, "Assistant Director"
