A/N: For ayuu11 and hyoyeon_seohyunhyoyeon_seohyun maknaelover12 and the rest of the deprived SeoKyu shippers, here's a long awaited maknae couple fic. :)

Some things in life were kind of obvious. Example: There were 60 seconds in a minute. There were 60 minutes in an hour. There were 24 hours in a day, seven days in a week, and 365 days, 52 weeks, or 12 months in year.

But for Seohyun, these things weren’t as obvious.

What determined how long a second was, and who said that a minute had to be 60 seconds long? What rule stated how twelve months were divided, or the simple fact that there were even months at all?

For Seohyun, time was a puzzle waiting to be solved.

She valued her time like it was an object a person could hold, caress, and fret over. It was her most prized possession.

Well, that, and Kyuhyun.

Technically, Kyuhyun wasn’t really hers. She just liked to think so. For as long as she could remember (actually, only five years), Seohyun had had the biggest crush on Kyuhyun that anyone could ever imagine. But what made her different from all the fangirls spread throughout the world, what made her special from the rest of his admirers was that Seohyun knew him.

Seo Juhyun knew Cho Kyuhyun better than she did herself.

She knew that his favorite food was anything super, super spicy and that he loved the color green. She knew that his favorite game wasn’t Starcraft, but rather this old American game called Halo. She knew that he liked to go to the beach when the sun was just setting, and that he’d rather sing to the one he loved most instead of a crowd of a thousand fans. She knew everything there was to know about him.

From the time they had first met when she had been running errands for her members and bumped into him, she’d known they’d become close friends.

Maknae and maknae of the two biggest groups in South Korea; it was destined to be.

Or maybe Seohyun was just really superstitious.

Either way, Seohyun liked Kyuhyun and that was all that mattered.

Animals each had their own sense of style. They moved in different ways, they each had different habits, they looked different and spoke different and were just… Different.

For example: Swans. They were white, graceful, like royalty. With their beaks held high, it was a calm animal.

Tigers. They were striped, sly, like ninjas. With their tails curled, it was a feared and dangerous animal.

Elephants. They were wrinkly, slow, like grandpas. With their stumpy legs moving an inch at a time, it was a respected animal.

Seohyun, Kyuhyun thought, had a personality like an animal. More specifically, a puppy. She was cute, lovable, fun to hang out with, but could be serious when she wanted, and could be scary when she wanted.

Other people said she was really shy and reserved, almost to the point that it was disturbing, but Kyuhyun didn’t think so. He was open with her, and she was open with him. He knew everything there was to know about her, like the fact that her favorite color was red because it went perfectly well with green, and she loved Christmas time. He knew that she liked ballads better than dance songs, just like him, but loved to dance just as much too.

He also knew that he liked her. A lot. But, that was just him.

Seohyun shuffled awkwardly and Kyuhyun kind of had the urge to reach out and grab her hand, maybe squeeze it comfortably. It’s okay, I’m here, his eyes said, but he doubted she’d be able to see them. They were all alone in the janitor’s closet, after Hyoyeon and Eunhyuk had shoved the two in there, locking the door from the outside until, according to the dancers, “you two get your problem solved.”

“I don’t… Do you know what they’re talking about?” she asked, forcing it out. If they were going to be stuck in here without a clue (though she might have had a slight idea), they should at least make conversation.

“Um… Not really. But I think - never mind.” Kyuhyun took a deep breath and flipped his hair to the side. Seohyun noticed it was growing out again.

“What is it?”

“Nothing.”

Seohyun nudged him, the touch sending electric currents both of them. (did they really have it this bad?) “Come on, you can tell me!” She kept pushing at him, only because it was starting to get uncomfortable in this cramped space and she really wanted to get out (even though Seohyun knew she was lying to herself - after all, how many times did she get the chance to be locked in a closet with Cho Kyuhyun? not many.)

“Do you really want to know?” She nodded furiously, and he took a deep breath. “Okay. Here it goes.” Kyuhyun coughed, wiped his hands off his jeans, and then ran them through his head. Taking another breath, he coughed again. “Okay. Here it goes.” Then he wiped his mouth and examined the remains on his hand, frowning and rubbing at his mouth. Then he licked his lips, while searching in his pocket for some item that Seohyun had no idea what it could possibly be. “I’m ready. Here it goes.”

“Are you going to tell me or-” Kyuhyun kissed her. Her lips fumbled against his and she really had no idea what the hell she was doing. Her knees felt jittery and she fell against the sink behind her, only to take him with her. His hands pressed against the cabinet above her head, kissing her passionately, filled with years of loss without her.

Their messy kiss was just the answer she needed - for so long, she’d kept everyone locked out from her heart, other than her family and friends. Her walls were built higher than anyone she knew, a thick tower of cement and broken-hearted soldiers guarding the entrance. And they were crumbling down, piece by piece, and it was making her delighted. Because sometimes, you put up walls not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down, and he had cared enough. Kyuhyun - her Cho Kyuhyun, her best friend in the world, that she couldn’t have ever imagined - had cared.

Her hands fumbled for his shirt, to pull him just a bit closer, but he took it as an opposite meaning and he let go of her, eyes shining brightly.

“There you go,” he muttered, pushing against the door until it flung open and running out of the closet.

Outside, Hyoyeon and Eunhyuk were standing, startled. They looked back into the dark closet and saw Seohyun stumble out. She fell against the wall and placed a finger to her lips, completely dazed.

“I think… I think he likes me.”
