BP the former SOE

Jun 21, 2010 23:33

This column in the Examiner points out that BP, as a former state-owned enterprise, is the type of business that plays along with government, in exchange for protection against competition, rather than the all-American type that fights the regulations that reduce competition, raise prices and often fail to accomplish their stated goals. The columnist's choice of Massey Energy as a counterexample isn't great, but I like his overall point that if BP were American it would probably (and quite justly) be fighting tooth-and-nail to show that the government also had a share in the blame, and they probably wouldn't acquiesce to Obama's extralegal demands.
