Chinese Gospel Church picnic

This afternoon, I went with some CCF folks and other Chinese students to a picnic (野餐) held by the Chinese Gospel Church. It was held on a farm outside of town (really an estate with rolling hills and a pond). The view of the hills and mountains was gorgeous.

We had a lot of fun throwing the Frisbee®, walking around the pond and chatting. The food was excellent: the juiciest, most delicious chicken I have had in a long time, some tasty and interesting Chinese dishes, fresh fruit, and some other things. They had burgers and hot dogs, but I didn't bother with those.

One fun part was surprising some of the adults with the fact that I speak Chinese. Of course they act impressed no matter how well you speak; what made me glad was the fact that I could understand so much of what people were saying in Mandarin.

After dinner, there was a short service consisting of a few hymns, a baptism, and a sermon on the meaning of baptism. Then we played around some more and went home. 'Twas an afternoon well spent; the weather was far too nice to be indoors.

chinese, life
