I buy own root roses, give them good soil, water them well the first year, and then expect them to thrive. It works for the healthy roses! No fussy princesses in my garden (except for Pure Poetry who is a bit fragile). The whole secret to rose growing is to buy healthy stock of disease resistant roses. I'm glad they are so hearty, because all of my fussy stuff died when I got sick in 2004. Made me grateful for the roses.

They don't look like that now. When we had those strong winds, I had quite a bit of damage. They will bounce back by next spring.

Thanks!

Again, your roses are lovely! I love the way Marie Pavie looks with Valentine.

Can I come and live in your garden? Not in your house....just in the garden. It's indescribably gorgeous!

Knock out is REALLY a knock out. It is the most aptly named rose I've ever seen.

People, especially rosarians, can be so snobby about Knock Out. I have seen it overused, and I've seen scruffy ones down south. But, in my garden, it's healthy and happy. It doesn't have the soul of many roses, but I use it as a flowering shrub to bring continual color to the garden. I bought the original Knock Outs before the other colors came on the market, so I have a number of the fluorescent cherry red bushes--and don't I wish that color was less neon! I have some nice soft pink ones in the Corner Garden, and those are much easier to live with.

Just gorgeous! I don't care what you call it; clever names are not required.
