RIP Aunt Sylvia

My Aunt Sylvia passed away last night. She had cancer in her brain stem. She had been fighting it for severals years now, but it finally caught up to her. It was expected though, as she has been in the hospital for about a month or so, and was basically getting worse each day. Unfortunately I won't be getting home for the funeral, since it's a about a nine hour drive each way, and I have to work anyway. I'll send a sympathy card to my Uncle Isidor and my cousins JC and Kevin.

In less sad news, I went to Brunswick Mine's annual Year in Review dinner last night too. It was at a former cross-country ski lodge. It was a very cozy place, they had an open bar, and they served a four-course meal. They started with salad, then served a homemade soup, then our choice of chicken breast, shrimp, or beef brochette (that's the one I chose). The main course came with a choice of baked potato, rice pilaf, or white rice (that's what I chose), and another little salad thing. Then they had a selection of pies and Black Forest cake for dessert. It was all very delicious. Last night was just for my division of the mine, so there weren't many people my age there. There was one guy who I met once through my old roommate Matt, but I don't really know him well. I just shook his hand when he first came in. I basically hung-out with my boss's boss all night. He's a really nice guy, and we just talked about various things. It was pretty entertaining. I imagine that it probably cost the mine about 100 dollars per person, so I'm glad I decided to go, despite the sad news about my aunt.
