A Call To Arms
Years ago I was a young, terrified lesbian new to the area. Among other challenges, I had to get my yearly exams and I had no idea how to get a gynecologist and know it would be a woman doctor. Did I mention I was poor? I was a poor, young, terrified lesbian new to the area and I had no idea where to go.
This story has a happy ending, and then a terrible tragedy, and another beginning.
That new beginning has something to do with you.
I found a wonderful place to go, Verbena Clinic. That's the happy ending. Verbena actively promoted health in gay women through health fairs, connections to other medical care (which is how I got to Country Doctor, another fantastic program) and educational literature. I met a wonderful woman that day, and we became fast friends (that's another story). She was a driving force in the Verbena program and we have maintained a friendship through great distances of space and time.
Back to the story, I promised a terrible tragedy: One of the founding members ran off. With the entire budget of Verbena Clinic. There is no more Verbena Clinic. Young women who might otherwise get examined regularly will again huddle terrified in the dark without any guiding light. This is a terrible tragedy.
And now for new hope. Ingrid, undeterrable, is slowly building a new organization to accomplish the same goal. Of course, this takes years of effort and cumulative contributions...

Which of you brave souls has the brainpower and the heart to bring a good women's organization into fruition? We all know how important an effective website is to disseminating information. As it stands, the status of information access on this website is abismal.
