Theatre High

This afternoon as I was working on the stage, the technical theatre instructor came to check in with Paul about using the shop/warehouse for class.   After doing so, he asked me to be master carpenter for his production of Long Day's Journey Into Night in the studio theater this February.  The scenic design is very architectural from the description he gave me.  It replicates Eugene O'Neil's former home in New London, CT.  It sounds like all the drawings and even a model are already done.  That's more than I have for the current mainstage production!  It sounds like he is ready to get started.  I am looking forward to seeing the design.

A friend reminded me Saturday night that I have a passion for theatre design and production.  After all, I had considered pursuing a degree in it.  That and a conversation today got me thinking of a new direction in which to take my current job search.  I told the director/designer this afternoon that my availability to build his set was contingent on my search for full-time work.  Paul told me I could work full-time at the Warner, but he could only pay me $10 a week.  Seeing the economy is bad right now and architectural job opportunities are limited right now, it might be a good time to check out what kind of work is available in theatre.  I could do something temporarily until I find and architecture job or see if it leads to something more long term.  I wrote a theatre production resume so I might as well use it.
