somerandomchic and I returned from our trip to FL to spend time with her family for the holidays. When all was said and done, it was a good trip. We survived a 16+ hour drive both ways (split over two days) without killing each other or overly criticizing one another's driving.
IWe visited my aunt and uncle in Charleston, SC on the way down (oooh boy was it pretty!). We spent a day wandering around Charleston aimlessly, had lunch at a lovely little boathouse turned restaurant called "Fleet Landing", where we were served by the cutest southern flaming fag ever.
On the way back, we stopped in Greensboro, NC where I saw Guilford College,
somerandomchic's undergraduate college. It was beautiful! And I even got so see the legendary "Mary Hobbs Hall" the first ever female cooperative dorm, where many a lesbo head was shaved in solidarity over the front porch.
Other brief highlights:
I had my first malt shake at SONIC. Yum.
I went ice skating (in Florida no less) for a whopping 30 seconds. Here's the photo:
You'd think the new in-line skate style boots would be better than the old things... but they were actually much harder to maintain my balance in. It was tough to tie them tight, and they only just went up over your ankle, rather than going 1/4 of the way up your calf. I just barely got on the ice when they closed the rink to run the ice tractor over the rink to resurface. Once I hit solid ground again, I was done.
Having garlic knots and pizza at Leonardo's in Gainesville.
Going to Wild Iris Books, a lesbian bookstore (owned by dykes to boot) that has been in existence for 12-15 years. It's not a complete trip to Gainesville, if you don't go spend some money over at Wild Iris.
And they now have a website... where you can order books, coffee, crystals, candles, etc. and have them shipped to you.
http://www.wildirisbooks.com Going through
somerandomchic's familys pile of old photographs and starting her mom off on the project of safely archiving them by purchasing acid free scrapbooking materials, photo corners, etc, orgainizing the photos by decade, and starting the process of putting them in a book.
Not checking my work email. (okay okay, I checked it once. but only once).
The $50 gift certificate to OLD NAVY that I got from
somerandomchic's parental units.
Watch for
somerandomchic's vacation summary post, she's already composing it in her head, and it will come with photos to boot.
Just five more days until I have to go back to work. Off to OLD NAVY and Target to blow some gift certificate money. WOOHOO!
