ok now it is time for some sort of real post instead of just movie reviews... right? well... sorta. first off i'd like to do movie reviews again. there are less this time!
mind hunters - this movie was pretty stupid. a group of fbi profilers is trapped on an island and must find out which among them is a killer before they are all murdered. some of the deaths were horrible looking and interesting while some others were predictable and not exciting. it makes me wonder if the fbi has some sort of screening before they let people in. i would hope they would catch a serial killer at the screening stage... before allowing him to become a profiler. all in all, not an unpredictable moment to this movie. it had some funny parts and some cool deaths but the action was lame and the acting was bad. 5.5 / 10.0 only for the funny parts.
cypher - i am torn about this movie. it was low budget and low quality acting but had an interesting plot. and somehow they got lucy lui. i don't know how that worked - not like she added much to the movie, of course. anyway, i can't make up my mind whether this movie was smart or trying too hard. there was a whole lot of backstabbing and double-agenting. overall, the story seemed almost to be ridiculous once you get to the real meat of it. it's difficult to explain the story but let me try and simplify it a little. the main character goes to work for a company - call it company A. his job at company A is to spy on company B. however, it turns out that company A is brainwashing him so that he will instead get a job working for company B with no memory of working at company A. apparently company loyalty is the most important thing in the future and they will kill you for it. anyway, it turns out that the main character doesn't get brainwashed but gets hired by company B anyway since they want him to spy on company A indirectly. make lots of sense yet? well it gets worse from there and i have no intentions of trying to explain _that_ so i will leave it as an exercise to the reader. i can't really recommend this movie but it wasn't too bad... 4.5 / 10.0 for bad acting, exagerated to the point of stupid plot, and low quality effects.
the transporter - we just watched transporter 2 and i think i might have to go back and edit my review for that one. i forgot just how good the original was. it now occurs to me that the sequel didn't do it justice at all. anyway, i have already watched this movie and i might even have a review in here somewhere but god knows how i'll find it so i'm writing another one. the movie is funny and has some terrific action. jason statham does an excellent job making you believe he is ex-military - complete with lots of rules. the action was actually believable to a point and the love angle was meh ok. she is taiwanese, btw and named qi shu. also... i haven't been able to find her porno. just throwing that out there in case someone else has it... seriously, though, a great action classic. 9.0 / 10.0 for the sweet driving and fighting.
i think i mentioned that i finally finished makai kingdom but i don't think i've written a review yet. well here goes. the game was funny and the best in the nippon ichi lineup so far. there are tons of character classes and weapons. each weapon has it's own set of moves and only certain classes can use certain weapons. all of the weapon moves look awesome and some of them are just crazy. i still haven't seen all the attacks. i still want to try the syringe weapon. the dialog was funny and the characters were well developed. the storyline was simple and did little more than propel the game. i have to say that the game seemed a little stale because it was basically the same with new sprites and dialog. sure they added robots and cars and buildings but they weren't a big deal. the battle system was a vast improvement over the one in phantom brave but the confine system and items are still lacking compared to disgaea. reincarnation just isn't the same either. overall - not as much fun as disgaea but more fun than any other nippon ichi game. allows for endless customization and leveling. 8.7 / 10.0 because of the excellent dialog and voice acting and strong battle system; points off for being somewhat unoriginal and for the terrible menu system for equiping and such.
