Thirty First Communication

[Life as an organic interface was difficult.

In the past month, she had seen the departure of nearly everyone she spoke with on a regular basis; perhaps this was for the better, with Haruhi's arrival.  Under no conditions could Haruhi learn of her true nature.  Though she was prepared to replace the girl's memories if necessary, it was an absolute last resort she did not wish to take.  In any event, her life had returned to the cycle it had followed prior to her arrival in Mayfield: Observe Haruhi.  Entertain Haruhi.  Protect Haruhi.  Interactions with any others were to be restricted.  In school, Yuki keeps to herself in the corner reading silently; at all other times, she remains in her home, as much an object of decoration as the furnishings.

After several weeks of this, there is the distinctly familiar acknowledgment of  errors beginning to accumulate in her database.  What was it Kyon had said concerning this...?

For the first time in months, Yuki closes her books, stands up, and leaves the house for her own purposes.  ...After retrieving a few papers from her room.]

[action]
1: Her own purposes apparently involve staring openly at anybody and everybody doing anything more interesting than walking down the street.  She does not speak unless spoken to, but her presence itself is somewhat of a nuisance.

2: If the person is of school age, and if the person can tolerate Yuki's presence for more than ten minutes, she will eventually drift closer to anemically hold out a piece of paper.  ...It appears to be a 'sign-up sheet' for the Mayfield Book Club SOS Brigade.

3: For those few people whom Yuki speaks to more often than Once an Event, they will receive a single knock on the door.
