[Early August.

A time for reflection.

The lone representative of her world once again...  Her voice had grown softer.  Her mannerisms less obtrusive.  Her presence within the town less noticeable.  Yuki Nagato had always been content to stay in the background. Yet, along with that, in the last year, there had been added the constant knowledge that this peace could be broken by one of Haruhi Suzumiya's wild schemes at any time.

She isn't sure if it is a positive thing that she had grown accustomed to this.

August 6th in the Gregorian calendar.  The beginning of the most famous Tanabata festival in Japan, that of Sendai; coincidentally, the date of the lesser-chosen lunar date for Tanabata in the not-so-distant future of 2011.  Though much of Japan had adapted to the Western date of July 7th, including the Kansai district in which she made her home, it had not been so for the majority of the holiday's lifespan.  Regardless, July 7th or August 6th, the holiday was worth remembering.  That day, so many years ago now from her experience.  The explosion of data that had caused her, as an individual, to be separated from the Integrated Data Sentient Entity to gain organic life as this humanoid construct.  The day she had sent Kyon back to, twice now, to ensure that history proceeded as it ought.  The most important day for every single organic being living in her world, though they did not know it.

And another memory... August 6th... A little more than a week before the endless summer.  More than 15,000 repetitions of the same thing, enough to try even her bottomless patience.  She did not think she would be able to undertake it again, now knowing those unique emotions humans had created: boredom. apathy. restlessness.  Simply bringing it back to the forefront of her memory banks caused hundreds of minor errors to pop up in her database.  It had not been a welcome experience... In the end, he had solved the enigma, as she knew he would.

The summer months were always a time of excessive thought.  No school as a distraction.  In general, lesser calamities within the town.  So it is that Yuki indulges herself in these thoughts, rolling them about in her mind.]

There is much to think about.  The town can be put on hold for once.

Yuki Nagato makes a decision.  In the middle of the day on August 6th, she walks to the stationary store and purchases a single, brightly colored strip of paper.  On the way home, she stops in the park and reaches up towards one of the tree branches, where she spends some time slowly tying a knot.  She silently stares at her handiwork for about a minute before she turns her head towards the sky, where she examines the clouds for another five.  And she remembers what Haruhi had said to them on that day...

Orihime-sama.  Hikoboshi-sama.  The Western constellations of Altair and Vega.  She nods, as if in acknowledgment of the unseen stars, then, if undisturbed, turns to leave.  There is a single word written on the paper she leaves behind.

'Acceptance'.
