Here are some things I was not expecting about Florida.
1.) The way Spanish Moss hangs off of oak trees looks surprisingly like snow weighing down the branches of hemlocks and pines.
2.) The level of conservatism here is so high that I have been urged not to even discuss subjects like abortion in class. I allowed to, it's just not recommended.
3.) Sometimes air conditioners smell like feet. Or, maybe mine just needs service.
On a completely different note, I recently finished my first record of my own music. I can't believe I forgot to write about this before, but I got it back from the pressing plant while I was at CCY. I would have finished it last summer had it not been for tendinitis, which shot my jam-session down for over eight months. But it's done. I played almost all of the instruments and did at least half of the recording. It's only four songs, but they're mine. I can already see a lot of the ways in which it's a weak record. It has some strong moments, but my songs are just not where I want them to be. I suppose the only cure for that is to write more songs. It's good to know that one can get better at these things with practice, but it's frustrating to think that the stuff I'm writing even now is probably just going to end up as a stepping stone to the good stuff.
Anyway, anyone reading this who wants a copy is welcome to one. Just drop me a comment and I'll mail you one. Or, email me: myname@hotmail.com (except, write in my actual name if you don't know my name, then you'll just have to leave me a comment. But, you'll still get a CD).
