On Instant Messenger etiquette
Well, I just gotta rant a bit about Instant Messenger etiquette.
1. If You are the one who starts messaging Me, I think it's obviously your responsibility to carry the conversation. Am I wrong to think that?
Random Furry: Hi
Rat: Hi
Random Furry: You're not very talkative.
2. If you've got something to say, go ahead and say it. Instant Messenger tag is silly. Just say what you want to say!
Random Furry: Hi
Rat: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.
[three hours later]
Rat: Hi
Random Furry: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.
[three hours later]
Random Furry: Can I ask you a question?
Rat: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.
[three hours later]
Rat: Sure
Random Furry: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.
3. And speaking of Instant Messenger tag. If instant messenger says away, it's probably true.
Random Furry: Hi, how's it going? :)
Rat: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.
Random Furry: Rat?
Rat: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.
Random Furry: Hello
Rat: Auto-message: I am currently away from the computer.

And bonus telephone etiquette:
1. If you phone someone and you don't want to leave a message, hang up before the beep. Still sort of rude to not leave any message, but if you hang up before the beep, at least I don't have to call the voice mail just to hear you hang up.
2. If your voice mail is "Come on Rat. Pick up, come up, I know you're there, pick up", Get with the times. Are you still stuck in the 80s? Do you think voice mail is a tape recorder and speaker hooked up to the phone?
