Android Phone Battery Help

Jan 10, 2011 14:03

A few weeks ago, I downloaded updates for a bunch of the apps on my Android phone. Since then, my battery life has gone to hell. The phone lasts like 1/3 to 1/2 as long as it used to. Can anyone suggest how I can figure out/fix the problem? Is there some sort of "What's eating my battery" app?

I keep GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi off, though I suppose it's possible that one of the apps is overriding that.

How would I be able to determine if one of the apps is overriding my settings on GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth?

What do you mean, a hoax? Do they not kill apps, or do they tell you apps are running when they're not? I've suspected the latter, but if the former is true that sucks.

According to Advanced TasKiller, my phone has something like 15-20 apps that run at start-up. Most of these are useless crap that came installed on the phone and it won't let me delete, like the NASCAR live app.

After I use ATK, there are more like 5 apps that restart.

So your assertion is that running 10-15 useless apps in the background doesn't affect performance? I don't know enough about the Android system to say if that's plausible, but it certainly seems counter-intuitive.

Prior to a few weeks ago, my battery would last two days with normal usage, or one day with heavy usage. (I would usually plug it in every day, but if I forgot to plug it in I'd usually be fine until I got home from work the next day.)

Now it lasts more like 10 hours with normal usage, or 5 hours with heavy usage.

ON facebook someone suggested Juice Defender, so I'll see if that helps.

Hunh. I think I'll uninstall it and see how things go. Thanks for the info.
